We stayed at Novotel as part of a girls hockey tournament. The hotel itself is fine, as is the location. The group rates we were offered were convoluted, and caused several issues upon checkout. On our contract, it said that rates were based upon one adult and all other people in the room were subject to a $20 per person charge. People from our group asked the front desk and were advised that children under 16 were free. Upon checkout, everybody was charged for their children who were under 16. When we complained, the hotel only downgraded the charge to $12.50 per extra person. When the offsite parking with in and out privileges that was stated on our contract became unavailable, staff were dismissive and offered no solution. We were directed to park in an alternate location that did not have in and out privileges (which is important for a hockey tournament). No advance notice, solution or compensation was offered, even after we complained. After we complained and I was in a dialogue with the sales manager, her communication was at times unprofessional, unclear, and in one instance sarcastic (please see below under ‘sarcasm in return email’). In addition to all of this, a large breed dog was allowed into a room adjacent to one of our families’ rooms and the family was forced to change rooms because of the barking and extra noise from the animal. I would recommend the location of this hotel but I would be weary of staying there again because of the lack of professionalism, communication, and competence of some of the staff. Sarcasm in return email: With regard to the rate, I have checked, and it came to my attention that there is an error in the charges applied to one of the rooms. Upon review, it appears that one guest was charged $239.00 instead of $259.00 for their stay. Please accept our sincerest apologies for this. To rectify this situation, we will be charging the $20.00 difference. They should see this charge reflected on their statement.

I am sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations; please allow me to express my sincerest apologies. However please be advised kindly that the contract doesn't mention anything about in and out privileges, there is only one public parking below us which was closed due to the construction (last minute notice) and there is another one just in front of the hotel and for both parking, we do not own or manage them and we do not have control over their operations and fees. Regarding the fees you mentioned, when the guest has an individual booking at the hotel, if the parents have breakfast, up to 2 kids under 16 years old could have breakfast for free. However, for the groups, there is a fee, but in your case and in the contract, there is no fee mentioned about the breakfast it just says that there is a $20 extra fee per person in the room and this is not related to any breakfast fee at all. The agreed rate was 219.00 I was charged and extra 40 dollars two days after I checked out because the hotel says they made a mistake. Lucky I checked my visa. Sneaky practice. Also staff have no respect, manager has never returned my calls.

I am sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations; however please be advised kindly that you received a confirmation letter of $239 plus tax since you were 2 people and as per the group contract that was signed, $20 extra per person was applied. We never guarantee parking in our contracts as it is public and we do not own or manage the parking. Due to their last-minute notice for construction, we direct the guests to the other one just across the hotel. In both cases, as both of them are public, fees are paid directly to them. We were in touch with the coordinator and 2 other valued guests upon their request at the time of check-in and we explained to them that it was a miscommunication between the sports team coordinator with their guests. If you do not mind, I would like to know the details of the conversation that has been mentioned as rude to investigate internally, please, and thank you. No parking space

There is no parking space, you need to pay for extra parking space to go to other buildings. Signs and guidance are not conspicuous enough

Overall hotel was ok, not spectacular Our room was not cleaned once even though we left the sign on our door to di so. Plus, it would have been helpful to have a but more access to controlling the heat in the room. When checking out, the lady at the counter was rude to me when I gave her back the room key
