We visited this hôtel on route to the Camargue in mid May. This hôtel had been on my 'hit list' for some time, and it in no way disappointed. We were escorted to our room by the receptionist, a very nice touch. Upon reaching our accommodation, we were to find it beautifully decorated, as it was the occasion of our wedding anniversary the bed had been festooned with red paper hearts with towels shaped to represent two loving swans. Within thirty minutes there was a knock at the door and we were presented with a very nice bottle of the local bubbly, a very pleasant touch and tasty indeed. We left the room after a quick wash and rest to free ourselves from the travel fatigue after an hour or so to take a stroll around the cité, our second visit to Carcassonne and do a little tourist shopping. Upon returning to the hôtel we readied ourselves to dinner at La Barbacane, and what an experience that was to be. A restaurant that has truly earned their star rating, all hail the chef, Jérôme Ryon. After a wonderful sleep in a very comfortable bed, breakfast was another good experience, an ample choice of both a hot or cold buffet taken within the same room as dinner the night before. I have no hesitation in praising both the hôtel and it's staff and have no hesitation in highly recommending this hôtel, one day, soon I hope, we shall return.

Everything was perfect except two of our five rooms were too hot (# 302 and # 303) and could not be fixed although the staff brought in fans. My room (# 104) was wonderful, but the terrace was unusable due to dripped sap from trees.

My wife and I spent three days in Carcassonne with one full day to explore the city. Friends from Bordeaux recommended Hôtel de la Cité Carcassonne as a well positioned hotel for enjoying walking in the city. Be aware that there is no parking in the city but Hôtel de la Cité does have parking nearby and will assist you in bringing up your bags. Call ahead for an address of the parking lot as NAV programs can take you down some pretty narrow streets! Walking into the hotel, you are immediately met with an incredible fragrance. We asked at the desk where the perfume was coming from and discovered that it was a fragrance especially made for the hotel. Très chic! The hotel is absolutely beautiful and luxurious down to the smallest detail. The staff are very friendly and attentive. We unfortunately were not able to book reservations in the restaurant for dinner as it was fully booked the two nights we were there, months before our hotel reservations so make sure you book early. We did include breakfast in our booking and it was super. We felt like royalty as it was served in a banquet hall fit for a king. The bar was excellent both in offerings and ambience. We opted for local Languedoc wine on the terrace as the weather was beautiful. Our room was spacious and artfully decorated. The Hôtel de la Cité provided us with an excellent stay Carcassonne. I can’t be more effusive in my evaluation and recommendation.

I really liked this hotel. It is a beautiful historic building with a comfortable lobby and bar. The garden looked lovely also but it was chilly when we were there. We had a large nicely furnished room. The furniture was traditional and could use a bit of sprucing up but we enjoyed the stay there very much. The location is perfect and all of the staff we interacted with were pleasant and helpful.
