A Weekend in Aberdeen

A beautiful port city in the north east of Scotland, Aberdeen is full of surprises. It’s bursting with ancient history, contemporary culture, natural beauty spots, and plenty of cool new cafes and bars to hang out in.

There’s something for everyone – it’s a city which is not to be missed! Let us help you plan your weekend away.

The place to stay

Your search for hotels near Aberdeen station stops here. If you’re looking for somewhere budget-friendly yet stylish and conveniently located, then book into our ibis Aberdeen Centre – Quayside

Situated on the doorstep of Regent Quay (ideal for an evening stroll) it’s in amongst a whole host of museums, bars and shops and it’s a mere 4-minute walk to Aberdeen train station. The perfect base for a fun-filled weekend.

Get back to nature

Aberdeen might be a city but it’s a great place for nature lovers too. Stroll along the beautiful flower beds of Seaton Park to the north of the city, drink in the Japanese styling of Johnston Gardens, take a trip to the Donmouth Local Nature Reserve or partake in some dolphin spotting at Torry Battery – a truly magical sight to behold.

Experience the history

Aberdeen is simply full to the brim with history, boasting not one but two old towns. Old Aberdeen is where you’ll find Brig o’ Balgownie (a gothic bridge), the fairytale-esque Powis Gate, a 15th century cathedral, King’s College, and King’s Museum.
Footdee is the other old town, a tiny fishing village where you’ll find charming cottages lining the cobbled streets. To discover more about the history of Aberdeen, pay a visit to the award-winning Maritime Museum or the Tolbooth Museum (a 17th century gaol).

Grab a bite

Alongside the customary fish and chips, there’s plenty of amazing food in Aberdeen.

The Silver Darling and Moonfish Café both serve outstanding seafood, while 8848 has a delectable Nepali and Indian menu. Buchanan Bistro lovingly craft their dishes from locally sourced produce and Café 52 is a local’s favourite, offering a continental-style experience and a plethora of mouth-watering dishes.

Sample the culture

The Lemon Tree is the place to go to discover the next big thing in music, comedy, dance, and performance. Known and loved for its eclectic line-ups, it’s a must-visit. Musa Art Café offers a similarly exciting vibe, whether you’re there for the food and drink or the live acts.

Aberdeen Arts Centre has everything from intimate gigs to award-winning world tours and The Tivoli Theatre – a beautifully restored Grade A Listed building – has everything from comedy to blockbuster musicals.

Coffee or cocktails

Whatever your tipple, you won’t be short on places to head for a drink. Foodstory is a zero-waste café for any eco-warriors out there, and Books and Beans is a trendy coffee shop selling top food, great books, and excellent coffee.

Fancy something a little stronger? Grab a cocktail at Orchid, step back in time with speakeasy-style cocktail bar Dusk, or sample a local speciality and order a whiskey at The Tippling House.
