Disappointed for a change

My wife and I have been regular visitors to Bristol, staying at The Mercure and The Grand Hotels. After 4 super previous stays at The Grand, this stay way a disappointment. The room was very small for a standard double room. Being high in the building an in the roof section, we found the room getting warm, so decided to open the sash window to let in some fresh air. Sadly the sash would not stay open without being propped by a coat hanger. The window was also extremely dirty and mouldy. In the early hours of the morning we were woken by the sound of seagulls screeching and running around on the roof. When we reported the issues to the reception staff the reply was "we are sorry about that" and "you're not the first to say that". As you must agree, a disappointing response to receive. After looking forward to this stay for my wife's birthday for several weeks, it took the shine off our weekend.

A quiet room, very clean and well furnished. The only criticism that I have is that the lights are quite dim and can't be brought up to a high light to see things in the room clearly, but that's otherwise. Staff were efficient and explained everything well.

The first room I was given was damp (plaster bubbling) with a broken window.

While our 2016 makeover gave the place a spruce up, sometimes things slip through the net. Rest assured, we're on it, to make sure every nook and cranny is as spick and span as our guests deserve. Also, if the room's not up to scratch, we're quick to jump to action – just like we did with your room change. Regarding our receptionist, we usually pride ourselves on our team’s friendly attitude, and we’ll be sure to remind them of our expectations to ensure every guest receives a warm welcome. Great location, standard room

Small room but had everything that we needed. It would feel cramped for more than 1 night. Great location for anything in around Bristol city centre. Bed was comfortable and the free safe was appreciated. Water pressure on the shower was poor. Biggest complaint is on floor 5 of the car park, there is a sign stating £15 for parking overnight. I was charged £17. When I queried on checking in I was told that £17 was correct and the signs hadn't been updated. No apology or comment for the sign. Strange customer service. For a small amount I wasn't arguing on this. I noticed on return to my car, £17 was stated on some signs and £15 on others. This really needs rectifying.
