The hotel is well out of town, on an industrial estate and with nothing nearby. The room was OK except that the air conditioning was useless so I spent a very uncomfortable night. The restaurant was just about OK but tables weren't very clean.

I had heard very good reviews about the St Paul's branch and visiting Sheffield for the first time for a romantic weekend with my husband. We are woking in opposite parts of the country at the moment so these weekends are really cherrished and I thought we would treat ourselves to the Spa hotel. So you can imagine our disappointment when we arrived late on friday after a long day of work and not having seen each other for 3 weeks when we realised that in fact we had booked the Parkway branch and not the one we intended. It appears that we are not the first to have done this by mistake- you had five other couples in the same sitation on that weekend. For someone new to Sheffield, it is not especially obvious that there is another branch in the city (not in fact in the city at all). This is misleading and extremely cheeky. I would have happily paid extra for the St Paul's branch as that is where we wanted to stay but I did not realise that there were two branches. When we realised on the day, we were irritated but willing to pay the extra to shift our reservation to St Paul's as there were rooms available. But we realised that in fact you are completely separate compainies and money paid is therefore not transferrable. This is absolutely rediculous. How can you have the same website with both options coming up when I say that I want a hotel in SHEFFIELD and not make it obvious for the customer to choose between two options. You have to have two separate websites or have some sort of drop down menu if you are mutually exclusive hotels. This sort of sly marketting will do you no favours and I will certainly be ensuring that I say as much on online reviews as I am sure others will too. The only plus was that the ground staff in both hotels were very nice, though sadly it was not in their hands to help us.

The Mercure Sheffield Parkway is named after a major road that runs close to the hotel and is listed on all websites as Rotherham although we are only 4 miles from the city of Sheffield as detailed in our description on all booking channels. The Mercure website will list all available hotels in proximity order to the location entered by the user to allow our guests to see all the hotels within a set radius; as such if you search for Sheffield the Mercure St Pauls will always appear first, followed by ourselves and then the Mercure Danum Doncaster. It will then continue to list other Accor properties such as Novotel and Ibis within the radius of the location entered. The website lists the hotels with a brief description, 1 photograph and a from price -users can click on each hotel for more information, photos and room/board options and to confirm the price. As the website contains a full description and photos, confusion between Mercure St Pauls and Mercure Sheffield Parkway is a rarity and I can confirm that we had no other such matters on the weekend. Our stay at the Mecuee Sheffield was a supprise. Because it was on a bypass we thought it might be a cheap motel. This was not the case. The Motel was of high quality and the rooms were very good. BreKfast was 1st class and our stay was very pleasant.

This hotel has restored my faith in the brand, this is the 4th Mecure in total I have stayed in and 2 have been a little disappointing. The 1st I stayed in was the Mercure St Paul, which was a fantastic hotel in the centre of town, which had set a high standard but it was fully booked, so we tried here as they had parking. Its a little way out of town, but a short taxi ride which worked well for us. When we arrived, I was impressed with the customer service of the receptionist Ann. Whilst checking us in, she multi-tasked by taking a phone call when she saw that the caller had tried to ring before whilst she was checking in the previous couple, and called another staff member to help the caller. We loved the size of the room and it had a good sized shower, which you could also sit in. The bed was comfortable and the breakfast was good, the usual fruit yoghurt and cooked choices. The only thing I would say was the dining area was a little small. We would definitely use this hotel again when we come again to see our son.

Although the hotel is situated on a business park, hence not central to the city centre, it is so convenient to reach, just off the M1 and makes an ideal base to reach the Peak District. The normal cost is very reasonable but their special offers are even more of a bargain for the excellent facilities provided. Very large comfortable beds, nice lighting, flat screen tv, tea and coffee making facilities, and spacious, clean bathroom with large walk-in shower, lovely fluffy towels and toiletries provided. The breakfasts are excellent, either continental or full English, and the portions are generous. The staff are all very helpful and cheerful. Overall a very nice hotel.
