Good Ibis experience - though pricey, but that's Edinburgh

Booked here months ago to stay after a performance of Hamilton at the nearby Festival Theatre. First thing to say is I expected this to be a budget hotel but not sure a cost for a one night stay of £206 falls into that category. However, we couldn't find anywhere cheaper in central Edinburgh so I guess that tells you all you need to know about supply and demand in Edinburgh. That said, the experience was good. All the staff we encountered were excellent. The room was nice, a generous size for a budget hotel and the bed was comfy. The room was spotless and had everything you might need. The bathroom was fine and the shower had plenty of power. Being above nightclub land in the Cowgate on a Friday night it was pretty noisy until about 3am, but not much the hotel could do about that. Breakfast was a self service buffet. It was extremely busy. We were allocated a table but it turned out someone was already there so we had to be reallocated, which was a little annoying but not desperate and the member of staff handled it very well. The buffet itself was fine and included haggis as well as the usual "full Scottish" items. Overall, a decent enough hotel and ideally located for most of the attractions of central Edinburgh

Check in was pleasant and seamless, room was less than ideal. Maybe this is an American thing but there we no sheets on the actual mattress. There was this 2 inch mattress pad that was covered that sat ON TOP of the sheet-less mattress then a comforter type blanket to cover with. Also, the all the plugs you need to keep your phone charging and close by are on the opposite wall of the headboard (at least in my room) unless you wanted to run their extension cord type device across the floor which just seemed like an unnecessary trip hazard. The bathroom was like an airplane lavatory concept design that never became popular with this weird semi-circle shape and saloon style shower doors. Mildly clean, no washcloths provided or shower caddy on the wall to sit your own soaps so you're left to the shower floor.

Dear Guest, Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We are delighted to hear that you found our location convenient and our check-in staff pleasant. However, we sincerely apologize for the shortcomings you experienced during your stay. Your comments regarding the room amenities and layout are duly noted, and we will address these concerns internally to enhance the overall guest experience. We appreciate your valuable input and hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back for a more enjoyable stay. Warm regards, Zoe - Front Office ibis Edinburgh Centre South Bridge - Royal Mile

I stayed at this hotel for 6 nights in Apr 24 in a double room with breakfast. Hotels in Edinburgh are typically very expensive…mine averaged about $230/night and they were nice enough to put me on the top floor with great views out of 3 windows (which was quite reasonable!). Plusses: comfortable bed, decent sized bath, great views, delicious/wide variety (hot and cold) breakfast, outstanding staff. Minuses: Windows were bolted shut so no fresh air, room was a bit cold because it was chilly outside the week I was there (the hotel turned this one into a plus though by providing a floor heater and figured out the thermostat for me!), and final, no plug by the bed (but the hotel DID provide a very long extension cord to stretch over to the bed!). One thing I discovered in 6 nights, there were never any ‘problems’ only ‘solutions.’ Great, clean, centrally located hotel in the heart of Old Town about a ½ km from the Royal Mile…location was bank! 5 stars for this hotel, staff, rooms, and breakfast! Highly recommend!
