ChefErmis Couples - TripAdvisor review

The location of the hotel is great. Next to Royal mile. Breakfast buffet was very nice and the staff was very friendly, especially Anna. We had dinner as well and it was very good, Katerina (our waitress) was very helpful. The reception staff was also very helpful, especially Myrto. She helped us book our trips and also gave us a lot of useful information. She made our holidays a lot better with her overall assistance.

We were visiting Edinburgh to see a show. When booking we requested an accessible room as I have MS and use a rollator to keep balance and get about. I can't do stairs. Good efficient service at check in. However as we were approaching our room it became apparent that there were 7 steps to go up a half landing. There was an open wheelchair lift to use to overcome the steps but no matter how my husband and I tried we could not get this to operate. I had to drag myself up these 7 steps to reach the upper corridor to our room. Not a good start. Some time later we wished to go out of the hotel and fearing the lift was still not working my husband phoned down to get advice from someone at the desk to help us use the wheelchair lift. This person came to us quickly as we were waiting above the lift and getting no response from it. There was a lot of try this, try that, press that button, try closing that door etc until it finally came up the half floor to allow me to get down and along the corridor to the main lift area and out of the hotel for the evening. Got back in the evening without further concern. Day 2. As we had an accessible room it has a wet room shower. Regrettably my husband informed me that he had to have a shortened shower when he noticed that the water was rising and in looking beyond the curtains the water was well beyond the shower and about to leave the room. So no shower for me. We informed the helpful and genuinely concerned staff at the desk of this additional problem and suggested that as the disabled lift had again stopped working to allow me back to our room after breakfast we really should get a move to a better located accessible room. Again praise to the staff for agreeing to this. We were allocated room 701 in the same level as the main lift but it wouldn't be available for a few hours. As I couldn't get back to the room myself(because of now non working disabled lift) staff asked if my husband would repack our belongings and leave them in original room 755 and staff would move them when 701 became available. Can you detect how much time and frustration is being spent on this exercise when correct room allocation would have completely avoided the hassle. And finally. Some time later in the day I noticed that a magnifying mirror that I use to put in/take out contact lenses was no longer with us. My husband returned to the ever helpful desk staff who were as mystified as us that the mirror had been missed by my husband in his quick repack as above and also by the desk staff who moved our goods from 755 to 701 and also by the cleaners who had cleaned 755 for the next guest. No one had seen it except me and my husband when I began the day 2 putting my lenses in before going to breakfast. We had a mirror in room 755 but later in the day we didn't. Computer checks showed nothing in lost property and housekeeping knew nothing about it. Personally I think it's still in 755. No matter we bought another one on the way home (£15 at Boots) I kept my specs on on day 2 Compensation from the desk by way of apology was a free drink each at the bar. (Spirits or cocktails were not part of deal). Thanks. OK. Not an entirely enjoyable set of events for a couple of days away. I believe others would have been much more vociferous had it happened to them. I think it's unfortunate that the desk staff have to constantly think on their feet and problem solve in this way when largely the faults above are technical and maintenance ie. Room allocation wrong. Faulty wheelchair lift. Blocked wet room drain. Finally a drink each to say sorry is inadequate.

Dear Moral G., Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We sincerely apologize for the inconveniences you faced during your stay, especially regarding the accessibility issues with the wheelchair lift and the wet room shower in your room. It is regrettable to hear about the challenges you encountered, and we appreciate your patience and understanding. We acknowledge the importance of proper room allocation and maintenance to ensure a comfortable stay for all guests. Your feedback will be shared with the relevant teams for immediate attention and improvement. We are grateful for your kind words towards our staff's efforts in assisting you.
