Room with lots of space but traffic noise bad and as was the view from the window. When I asked the receptionist if the room was away from the road she did not know. As I had upgraded to a better room I would have expected a decent view and no traffic noise. Bar bill initially contained service charge o fwhich I was not aware, it was just put onto the bill. Overall quite disappointed and will stay ther again.
Dear GolferSkipton, thank you for adding your review, however please accept my apologies for not all aspects meeting your expectations. The majority of our upgraded rooms are in the old part of the building, which is closer to the road. These rooms are upgraded due to their size and additional facilities, but unfortunately not the view. We do have a significant number of rooms that are on the opposite side of the building, however these are mostly standard bedrooms. Kind regards Gordon Stewart
A very nice very friendly hotel. Well place for Park and Ride access into York. Nice room, nice food, good service. Well in fact just up to the normal Mercure standard. The evening meal we had on the first night was very good.
Booked the 4* hotel for 1 night as a treat, my partner wasnt feeling well so only wanted a light breakfast id happily have a full breakfast and my two year old son who is a very fussy eater would have had a peice of toast or bowl of cornflakes. Was told only option was to pay for three full priced breakfasts £30 seemed way over the top. No option to pay for a kids portion or a light vegetarian option for breakfast. Was made to feel unwelcome so instead of looking around we were forces to pack up and leave to find somewhere where the staff were more pleasant. Left a bad taste to what was supposed to be a relaxing break. Customer in this case was clearly bottom priority
Dear rjuk88, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. While I wish you had a better experience, it is feedback like this that we learn from and use to improve. We work hard to deliver an exceptional guest experience, and it's apparent in this case that we fell short. If you give us a chance to earn back your trust, I can assure you that we will do our best to give you the great hotel experience that so many of our guests have grown so fond of. Kind regards Gordon Stewart
Well located for York. Spacious hotel with good size rooms a little spoilt by the sound of passing trains. It was all fine but the hotel overall particularly inside can only be described as looking and feeling somewhat 'tired' and in need of a refurbishment. I was travelling with my daughter and two young grandchildren (6 & 3) but ridiculously even with a family room booked for them they were only allowed one adult and one child in the room. This necessitated having to book another family room for myself and one of the children. How that would have worked if my daughter had been travelling alone I don't know? The staff were very nice and couldn't have been more helpful. Disappointingly the food could only be described as average at best and if I stayed again I would probably eat out. It was ok for a night and the staff very good but the hotel itself I can only say that 'average' sums up everything really

We have stayed at this Hotel on many occasions over about eight years. The staff are always pleasant and helpful. It's in a beautiful location but near to Park and Ride so easy access to York its self, but we have travelled to lots of different locations from Fairfield Manor. The rooms are always clean and well maintained with all the usual facilities.
The hotel looks great from the outside but once you get inside the problems start. The room had poor quality energy lighting which meant you were in semi darkness all of the time. The furniture was shabby. The extras I paid for in the upgraded room were not provided. Staff had no concept as to the meaning of guest. They were unhelpful and failed to greet the customer. The restaurant manager argued over the cost of the meal while the reception staff continued to do other tasks while you were waiting. No one answered the bell on the bar. All in all staff poorly trained in customer care. To be fair I was given a complimentary meal and the bed was very comfortable. This does not, however, detract from the very poor level of customer service and the lack of extras in the room.
Dear murraylauder, thank you for taking the time to give some detail of your experience and please accept my sincere apologies for the shortfalls you have described. The quality and consistency of customer service are core values and your comments are taken seriously and being used as positive criticism with the team. Kind regards Gordon Stewart
We booked for one night as we were visiting York for our wedding anniversary. We found the staff to be friendly and helpful . The rooms were spacious and clean. The bathroom could do with an update but was still clean. The breakfast was good value with plenty of choice. The hotel reception is nice with plenty of comfortable seating as well as a bar area. The hotel has plenty of free parking and is near the major routes around York.
We stayed at the mercure on the autumn deal getting a good rate for 2 nights and £44 towards evening meal on first night. For what we paid we feel we got good value for money. The bedrooms were a good size and clean with decent amenities. They perhaps are ready for a decorate, a bit dated, but this is a period manor so gets away with it. Dinner was nice but would have been a bit on the pricey side if we were paying full price. Breakfast was lovely, full english and the usual cereals, fruit and pastries options. The staff were very friendly throughout the hotel. Drinks very pricey - charged 3.60 for a coke! Bus stop across the road takes you into York in about 10-15 minutes. Or there is a park and ride nearby. Also have use of a leisure club nearby - 5 min drive - we did this and was a nice new gym with pool and steam, sauna and jacuzzi. It is on a retail park nearby but beware of traffic nearby. All in all we had a great stay here and enjoyed the lovely city of York - I would stay here again on this deal.
Dear Laurabjames31, thank you for adding your review and I am most pleased that the staff played their part in an enjoyable stay. The best deals and prices are always available on our home website; hope to be able to welcome you back soon. Kind regards Gordon Stewart
