« Great staff and rooms »

Stayed in the ground floor suite which was amazing. Close to the entrance so very handy. The bed was huge and comfortable. There was a separate seating area with lovely sofas. The breakfast was great and delivered on time. The dinner was really tasty. Amazing experience overall.

Thank you for your most kind review. I have been receiving some incredible feedback recently regarding my team here. I am a very proud General Manager and thank you for giving the staff a mention. Happy New Year.

« Disappointed »

We go on holiday twice a year and normally stay at the premier inn as we know what to expect. This time we thought it would be nice to upgrade to a 4 star hotel and enjoy the hotel facilities and have a relaxing 4 day break. Unfortunately this was not the case. The room we where allocated was room 20. The large bed was great but the decor was not 4 star, more like 2 star. Anyway, we decided not to complain and unpacked our bags. The first morning we were woke up by banging from above and through the wall. We believe the banging from above was someone laying a carpet and we know the banging through the wall was the housekeeping staff as we found out that our room was adjoined to the housekeeping service room. Again we kept quiet as we did not want to cause a fuss. Later that day we decided to go and have a relaxing time in the steam room. The receptionist informed us that the steam room was out of order as it needed a new part. I asked when it would be working again and was told that it would not be working anytime during our stay as the part was very expensive and would not be replaced anytime soon. Again we went on our merry way feeling disappointed with our 4 star Mercure experience. The next day we asked for a needle and thread to sew a button back on but you guessed, the receptionist said they did not have any. I hope the management of the Mercure Norwich Hotel read this and offer us a good incentive to stay there again in 6 months and give us an experience off what a 4 star hotel should really be like or it will be back to the premier inn for us.

George I am so sorry you were disturbed in the mornings in room 20. I can confirm that there would not have been any maintenance before 0900 nor is there a service room near that bedroom...sorry something of a mystery. The steam room generator is being replaced next week. Sorry but the parts were 4 weeks delivery. I apologise that this was out of action during your stay. I am pleased you enjoyed our new super-king beds, we have had amazing feedback.

« it was okay! »

Welcome and check in very good. Breakfast staff, not the best. No interaction, showed me to my table and then whilst getting food someone was shown to my table! Food was average not a great selection! Hot food was very average food seemed to have been there for a while and the bacon was like cardboard! Newspaper ordered but not delivered. Offered to get me another but I was checking out within the hour!

Stuart C, General Manager at Mercure Norwich Hotel, responded to this review

Our breakfasts usually receive positive reviews so I'm so sorry you were disappointed. Thank you for mentioning the reception team, much appreciated.

« Tired hotel small rooms limited facilities for people with physical problems »

Stayed for one night which was enough. Staff were all very good - efficient and focussed on service. Menu was adequate and food tasty enough. Rooms were small and tired although the overall room cleanliness was good. Bedding was not 100% clean which was disappointing. Hotel lobby and general décor was very old fashioned and in need of refurbishment. Parking was easy, and good access to the north of Norwich.

Stuart C, General Manager at Mercure Norwich Hotel, responded to this review

Thank you for your review and the kind comments you make regarding the team here. I'm sorry you found us a little dated, we are doing our best to update the whole hotel on a rolling program.

« Business trip »

Staff were all very helpful and made the 2 nights enjoyable. Room service was good and food excellent, especially the breakfast which runs from 5am so enabled me to eat properly before a whole day at UEA pool coaching. The only reason I did not give a 5 star rating is that the hotel looks a bit tired and scruffy in its decor and things like the carpet in the bedroom being all rucked where the underlay has rotted I suspect. The bath was very worn and slippery too The bed was very comfortable enabling a good night's sleep Overall a very pleasant stay

Stuart C, General Manager at Mercure Norwich Hotel, responded to this review

Thank you for your kind comments regarding our food and the team here. Early breakfast is a real bonus for many of our guests with busy days both onshore and offshore.

« NOT A GOOD EXPERIENCE »

Room facilities ok but wallpaper peeling off walls & generally shabby Waiter in restaurant requires training - food order/wine order completely wrong (did not write down) & would not accept wrong wine on the 2nd attempt - this was sorted by Nikki Breakfast was not hot the following morning - ran out of eggs so a long wait - was told Lea & Perrins was not available in the hotel!! Not a good nights sleep due to cooling? fans outside of bedroom window going all night. Overall not a good stay & would not use again for this purpose

Stuart C, General Manager at Mercure Norwich Hotel, responded to this review

Carol, I know we've communicated already but I would repeat my apology, particularly regarding the young waiter who let us down that evening. I am delighted that Nikki rescued the situation so well and I have thanked her for her efforts. Apologies for your disturbed night and slow eggs I rather hoped that breakfast might be the time to recover your stay. I would be delighted to offer you a discount to return Carol, the opportunity would be appreciated.

« Not up to normal Mercure Standards »

I ignored the iffy reviews on Trip Advisor for this hotel, as I though it was a Mercure and it couldn't really be that bad. I was truly wrong. The hotel is on an industrial estate adjacent to the Norwich ring road, which is two lanes in either direction. This would be fine, if the hotel had double glazing, which it doesn't. I spent the night listening to police/ambulance sirens, when I wasn't being woken by drunk people making lots of noise in the corridor/slamming doors. The room, although mainly clean, looked nothing like the modern/refurbished one on the Accor Website. The carpet had dark wear marks and had wear wrinkles. The skirting boards were very scruffy and in need of repainting. The shower looked like it was from the 1970s! The car park was dimly lit and I was worried that my car wouldn't be there in the morning. I would definitely not recommend this hotel.

Stuart C, General Manager at Mercure Norwich Hotel, responded to this review

Sorry we disappointed you Claire. I will certainly investigate your complaints regarding your room. Double glazing would be delightful I agree. Yours is not a typical experience which will probably not make you feel any better...........
