Disappointing

Only 1 bath and 1 hand towel in bathroom. No bath mat and soap dispensers so high I couldn't reach them. On arrival we were told that breakfast was served until 11am in Sundays. We arrived in the dining room at 10.20am, and were told that we had "just made it." Staff member didn't look happy, insisting that breakfast was only served until 10 30am. Dirty knife on table. Breakfast offering below par for a staggering £16 each. All in all, the accommodation was over priced, I wasn't happy paying for parking at a rural hotel and wouldn't stay there again.

Lovely rural location but handy for work

Slipping standards

James S TripAdvisor review

I’ve been staying here on-and-off for the past few years and I’m disappointed to say the standard has dropped considerably in that time. The rooms have always been dated (as noted on most reviews), but the overall experience had been saved by some of the hotels other offerings. This is no longer the case. The breakfast selection is very poor. Minimal hot offerings, watered down juices, and terrible coffee. During quieter times you have the option to have food made to order, although it’s hit and miss that you’ll end up with what you want. Parking used to be free. It’s now £10 a night for the privilege of leaving your vehicle in an often flood car park. Service at the bar is often slow, particularly when out of season. Every floorboard creaks, slamming doors rattle the building and the fire alarm was intermittently sounding during my most recent stay. The only saving grace is the majority of staff are pleasant and helpful. I try to stay at Denbies Wine Estate wherever possible now. Cheaper, more modern, free parking, plenty of electric car chargers, and a better breakfast selection.

Dear James, Thank you for leaving your review, I am disappointed to read you are your finding standards to be slipping. We have recent invested significantly in the quality of bedrooms and public areas. We have retained the most popular items on the Hot Buffet and offered the rest from the kitchen, guests have several choices of freshly cooked hot breakfasts, or they can grab a quick bite from the buffet in a rush. On the cold buffet we have introduced local, cheese and honey with a bountiful selection of fresh fruits, breads and pastries. We have recently engaged a number of new bar staff who will be dedicated solely to that area of our business, I am confident this will improve the bar experience all round. Guest who book direct with the hotel either via accor.com or at the hotel enjoy complimentary parking, those who book via commission driven sites such as booking.com, hotel.com will be asked to pay for their parking. James I am at your disposal during your next stay, I hope you will see a significant improvement from the bar in the coming days.
