"Friendly and very well-placed hotel"
14th February 2013, Caro908, Winchester, United Kingdom
The staff were really helpful and friendly. The location is excellent. Room was very comfortable with a good, firm bed. Breakfast was plentiful and of a high standard. The bar has lots of different areas with comfy sofas and chairs. The World of Whiskey was an unexpected treat! The one and only drawback to this otherwise excellent hotel was the checkout - a long line of guests on every day I was there, and only one person struggling to keep on top of the queue, and to field (justified) grumblings about the time it was taking. There also seemed to be a couple of errors; a colleague has unsolicited charges on their bill, but errors were quickly and unquestioningly corrected. I would stay there again and highly recommend it to friends.

"Excellent stay"
16th January 2013, dianeanddavid, Nottingham, United Kingdom
We stayed at the Shakepseare on the strength of their special offer, which gave us a large discount. We felt that we might have been allocated smaller rooms because we were on this deal, but on the contrary the rooms were excellent - exceptionally spacious and well appointed. They were also ready when we arrived during the morning - not to be expected but a big bonus. We ate breakfast in the hotel and this was of a very high standard with a plentiful selection of hot and cold food. The position was excellent - very central so that we could pop back with bits of shopping before going to the theatre. We knew that we would have to pay for the parking, but £10 per night could mount up into a big bill if you were there for a few days. The drinks in the bar were a reasonable price and it was lovely to sit in front of a real fire.We had such a nice time that we have already booked our next two stays!
"Romantic night off"
15th January 2013, ann_williams10, Leicester, United Kingdom
We have stopped at other hotels in Stratford before so know the area quite well but had a little difficulty finding the hotel carpark, therefore phoned them as we were driving around but the first member of staff could hardly understand me and passed me onto another member of staff who directed us quickly. We then found that the carparking is an additional cost of £10 which I thought was a bit much considering the room was £160 for one night. We had a lovely large room that had everything we needed except central heating! I understand that it's an old building but I did not expect two plug in heaters for warmth with no way of heating the bathroom! The cleanliness of the room could have been better with a dead fly stuck to one wall and cob weds and dust everywhere. The atmosphere of the building was why I booked it as it was our first night off from the children for over a year and it was a Christmas present to my Fianc'e so I was a little disappointed it wasn't better.

"Nice place - shame about the service"
12th January 2013, CandM_13, Keynsham, United Kingdom
The hotel in Stratford upon Avon is a lovely historic half timbered building. It could be really good with better attention to detail and service. We were in a suite but had to ask for the extras that should have been there. Breakfast service was particularly poor - on arrival no bowls for cereals, no orange juice, no natural yoghurt. Men in suits took no action on being informed. An order for porridge, with mushrooms and tomatoes to follow was served together - the cereal bowl placed on the plate with the cooked breakfast.Breakfast is £15.50 - we have had better at Guest Houses

"Good base"
24th December 2012, pfsgaoler
Overall a good hotel clean and the staff were polite. Not given a pillow choice tho and i like soft pillows, all four in my room were hard ones.£15.50 for breakfast i think is steep£10 for car parking per night is very steep especially if you stay several nights
"Shakespeare Break"
6th December 2012
Arrived at hotel at lunchtime and as we had stayed there before we new what to expect. On the way to our room, we noticed two trays of food, half completed outside a bedroom door. When we left the hotel a day later, the trays were still there. That is just not good enough. We ordered the economy evening meal based on the dated emailed menu we were sent for the night we were stayinig at the hotel. When we went into eat, the menu had changed and as a vegetarian, this is quite important. I would not have eaten in if I had known that soup with a crusty roll consisted of soup with four croutons or that a cous cous salad was a neat pile of plain cous cous on a beetroot base with some grated beetroot and onion as a garnish.I think this was our last stay at the hotel. Pity
