"Wedding night!"
11th May 2012, sampeel69, Sheffield, United Kingdom
Great view of the Peace Gardens where we had our wedding photos taken. Lovely room and just what we needed after a long day! The staff were great. Two minor bugbears - the fridge lights were on but it wasn't chilling and the bottles of beer we ordered didn't come with a bottle opener (I got the tops off with a screw driver in the end!). I should of course have told the staff, but we were kinda busy!

Excellent. Only gripe is that the room was too hot and no window could be opened. Turned the air con to max but still was uncomfortable to sleep.

"Highly recommended"
3rd April 2012, Angela1234550, Grimsby, United Kingdom
I booked this hotel for my daughter's 21st. She stayed over with a friend whilst going to watch Drake at the arena. When she arrived she had experienced difficulty in finding a place to park and even locating the hotel (I did warn her about Sheffield's love of trams and traffic wardens). She left the car in a side street and a gentleman in reception sorted everything from there, located the car, valet parked it, free drink vouchers to ease her pain!! It just got better from then on; a free glass of champagne when they visited the bar for her birthday, a wonderful meal in the restaurant and ready for their night out. Breakfast was a joy. A great night and wonderful patient service.... THANK YOU.

"Fantastic hotel"
28th March 2012, London
Stayed at the hotel for one night and upgraded to a suite for an extra £20, the suite was huge and had great views of the city. The room was very modern and the bed was very comfortable. The free thermal spa facilities were very clean. Staff at the hotel were extremely friendly and they really made you feel welcome. Breakfast had an excellent buffet with everything you could ask for. We will definitely be staying again as we had such a lovely time.

"Decent high quality hotel in a convenient location"
25th March 2012
Hotel rooms are a decent quality and spacious. The pool and Gym is equally of good quality. The only issues I had is that in some rooms the air conditioning barely works, and there is a lack of convient power sockets in the room. However, for the price charged I have no issue with recommending this hotel especially given how close it is to the train station.

"spacious, modern, good views and right in the centre"
13th March 2012, London, United Kingdom
Lovely large room -right by the lift but rooms seem to be well soundproofed. View over the winter garden to the hills beyond Sheffield. Large lobby/bar with comfortable seating. Friendly and helpful staff.Paid for room only and had breakfast nearby.Very short walk from the theatre and concert hall, only 5 minutes from the station.Only criticism is the air-conditioning [in Yorkshire? In March?!] Found the room rather too warm and you can't open a window.

"Mercure Sheffield"
24th February 2012, Belflyer1, Brüssel, Belgien
Very nice hotel with excellent staff, great facilities and a central location and a good price - we had a suite with a great view over the city - breakfast was great if a little priceyThe big letdown is the parking - GBP 23 per night for valet parking and the nearest public parking is a good walk away - the valet service is greatr but it stings to pay 23 pounds for the parking after getting a decent room rate Great hotel if you're not travelling with a car and don't need to park

Great room, huge bed.Very good breakfast.Really good gym, excellent sauna & steam room and a really good sized swimming pool. It's nice to stay at a city centre hotel with a pool where it is possible to actually swim proper lengths.

"Comfortable "home" after long rink days!"
3rd February 2012, Dundee, United Kingdom
I stayed here during the European Figure Skating Championships. The thing that really stood out was the friendliness and attention to detail of the staff. They actually remembered who you were and could even tell me that my friend had already eaten breakfast without me asking! The hotel is situated in a lovely part of Sheffield adjacent to the winter gardens making it very bright and spacious. The Champagne bar was cosy and the food pretty good for a chain hotel. There is also a nice Italian across the road that many of the skaters also ate at. Rooms were nice and spacious although my shower could have been more powerful.Only complaint is the charge for wifi. Why can this not be included? Overall a very comfortable base.

"Weekend in Sheffield"
2nd February 2012, London, United Kingdom
Overall the hotel was very good if just a little disorganised. The breakfast was a little chaotic as the room isnt quite big enough for the hotel during busy periods. This meant waiting in the seats outside, however because there was not always people welcoming guests for breakfast other guests walked straight through and claimed the tables being cleaned! The wi-fi was not able to be accessed in the room despite being given two codes - I also overheard other guests complaining about this. These negatives, however, were nothing compared to the friendliness of the staff who went out of their way to make the stay a really good one - especially the restaurant staff who stayed open later than advertised to provide meals for quests returning from the Ice Skating Championships.

"Tried it once"
23rd January 2012, Liverpool, United Kingdom
Very nice looking hotel and very spacious public areas. The spa especially is worth a visit.Breakfast service was very slow and limited choice if you had breakfast after 8 on the cold selection. My room was on the first floor right next to the canopy which meant when it rained it was like being in a tin can. The room was very spacious with a loovely view over the gardens but the lighting was atrocious for working and reading.Glad I stayed and glad I did not pay full price as it was a winter deal. Will I stay again no back to the Novotel next door it winds hands down.

"A good stay but not premier"
20th January 2012, Sheffield, United Kingdom
We stayed at the very central Mercure St Pauls. Take advantage of the parking deal with the NCP - 24hrs for £4.We choose to upgrade to a premier room and were expecting spectacular views, a kingsize bed, robes and slippers. The view was as promised, but any room above the third floor would offer just as good a view. We also expected a larger room but it seemed pretty standard. The robes and slippers were as promised, but twin beds made up with one sheet are not a kingsize bed!
