I had one of the most unpleasant dining experiences of my life at the much-advertised Das Loft restaurant. My waiter blatantly tried to pressure me into spending more money. First he only brought me the tasting menu. I had to ask to see the full menu. After I ordered, he said, "Wouldn't you like to add another course?" And so on. It really ruined the whole experience for me. I went to the spa 15 minutes before closing. The staff looked very anxious that I might actually go in. The only staff at the hotel who were genuinely attentive and helpful were at the front desk, and even they pushed signing up for the rewards program too aggressively. (A simple "no thank you" wasn't sufficient.) As for the room, the decor looked like the drabbest Ikea showroom I've ever seen. The floors were bare concrete, painted gray, and there were white particle board cabinets everywhere. No color.

Furthermore, I understand that the interior décor was not to your liking. The French architect Jean Nouvel created a unique design concept in our hotel. The rooms are minimalistic and designed in a threefold color scheme: grey white and black. The idea behind this sober interior is that nothing should distract from the stunning views of Vienna. The architect invites Vienna into the hotel room and the focus should be on the this extraordinary city. I am sorry that you did not feel comfortable in this minimalistic design environment. The hotel is beautiful and the rooms are spacious. Staff friendly and very helpful. Location perfect, especially being across the finest ice cream place in Vienna! Breakfast is excellent; large buffet with great French bread and pastries.

Stayed here for 3 nights. Hotel exceeded expectations and one of the nicest sofitels we have stayed in. The breakfast was outstanding - beautiful view, well organised with a very competent manager, great staff (after a slightly shaky start), lovely omelettes and can enjoy a glass of shame. May seem expensive but a really nice treat - please give yourself at least an hour to really enjoy. The gym facilities are small but of good quality. The room (white) is pleasant and clean with very clever storage, an espresso machine, free soft drink mini bar, great temperature control, excellent water pressure - no complaints. Handily has two sinks too. Hotel is very well located and when we are back in Vienna will definitely stay here and we are fussy people. A big compliment to a good modern luxury hotel.

We recently stayed at the Sofitel Vienna Stephansdom from the 17/12/15 to 23/12/15. As our flight arrived quite early in the morning we were expecting that we wouldn't be able to check in till later in the day but were extremely happy that we were allowed to check in at 7am. After a long haul flight this much appreciated as it allowed us to freshen up, unpack and get to breakfast. From previous experience in staying in European hotels we were expecting our room to be on the smallish side but were surprised to find that our room was large enough that even when a roll away bed was put in for our daughter that we still had room to place bags and walk around with out tripping over each other. The room has a great view of the cathedral and across the center of Vienna. With a King bed, separate toilet, bath and shower it made it quite comfortable. The Nespresso coffee machine, tea, water and the fact that you could use the bar fridge to store things in without being charged was also very helpful. Having free bottled water in the room and in the bar fridge was also helpful as it meant we didn't have to lug bottles of water from the supermarket. Breakfast is on the 18th floor with a fantastic view across Vienna. Great selection for breakfast . We did not eat at the hotel for lunch or dinner due to the many options in the city. The hotel is in a great location, only a 10 minute walk from the St Stephens Cathedral and another further 5-10 minutes from the Opera and many of the Christmas markets in and around Vienna. Having the metro just across the river, Schewdenplatz station, helped enormously in getting around especially to Vienna Hauptbanhof for the day trips out of Vienna. All the staff were attentive and friendly, from the front desk, restaurant and room servicing. The concierge was very helpful and accommodating and nothing was a problem to organise. We will definitely here when we return, hopefully with a bit more snow around.

Excellent stay in Vienna in a Gray Suite facing South over the Danube. The room was very comfortable, had all the expected amenities and my only critique is the cabinetry in the room was dirty in places.

The location is excellent for old town Vienna. Hop-on Hop-off bus stopped within 20m. The staff were very helpful on arrival and throughout our stay. Sofitel beds are renowned for their comfort. This was no exception. We thought the bedroom (all grey) was a bit quirky at first with the bathroom almost in the same room (a sliding door closes for more privacy) but we soon got used to it and it was a pleasure in the end. We also had free soft drinks & water during our stay.

The best hotel stay ever. Absolutely fantastic service from everyone starting with Medina at the front desk, Wolfgang the concierge and Steve the sommelier and everyone else in this stunningly beautiful contemporary hotel. It might not be for everyone but suited our taste down to a "T". The staff have obviously been empowered at every level to ensure that their guests are happy.

Is a welcome drink all the benefit that Gold card holders should get from a hotel like yours? Hotel stuff turned rigid and arrogant upon mentioning this to them. They mentioned some rules, that if the hotel is fully booked, that´s the only benefit they can give, and dont really understand what the problem is! Well, if they dont, and are not able to say even a sorry, then "my rule" is that you´ll simply get negative feedback. Saying sorry, and offering some small gift (like some kind of voucher or whatever) would have been all they should have done so I feel that my loyalty is indeed honoured, and I dont get upset with them instead.¨
