we stayed 2 years ago for 3 days not enough time . we chose to stay 7 days to relax and tour island properly .got sick 3 days never saw guest service manager to busy sitting in office. rest of staff excellent . concierge under estimated taxi price to town . there were sea lice depending on current

Very beautiful hotel ,facing the beach.All the staffs are smiling and offer very good services,always trying to understand what the guests are looking for. One unfortunate thing was at the time of check-in.The hotel offers free shuttle bus services between airport and the hotel.We took a shuttle,may be among total of 10 people,and were invited to the bar for the check-in process. One thing I realized was that they did not care about Accor Hotel Program "A Club".They did not ask any on this,and further even if I asked them on the benefits,they could not repond at all.After we settled in the room,I asked again on the benefits,and then they said "We need to change your room as your Platinum level customer".On the another benefit,I had a trouble to convince the front staff.I hope,they could improve this.Also unfrtunatelly,my A Club points have not been credited yet! (The hotel we stayed after this has already credited the points,so I may need to claim in several days time?)

Beautiful stay at La Veranda, very relaxing and enjoyed it alot. Room was very clean and had everything that you could want. It all started with a fruity welcome drink and a stunning view, all very organised, professional and friendly. The pool was peaceful with a little jacuzzi, always space around to sunbathe, grab a drink. Lots to do on the beach and we tried out the kayaks and went next door (ish) to the Pearl farm which has a huge selection. We dined at the Peppertree restaurant which was excellent, we both visited the spa for a massage which slowed me down to the pace of island life. We also tried out a tour to the north of the island which was very interesting and worth doing. Phu Quoc as an island is changing with a massive resort in the north which to be frank looks pretty hurrendous (chopping down huge areas of forest and building americanised dolphin parks. eurgh!). Would stronglyrecommend supporting places such as La Veranda who make alot of effort to ensure that tourism on the island is sustainable and respectful of its natural beauty.

We have had a wonderful experience in Phu Quoc at La Veranda. Even though the swimming pool is quite small but the hotel has access to its own private beach, very peaceful. The staff and the manager were very accommodating for our family and arranged everything for us, from taxi rental to restaurant booking, late lunch on arrival, to late check out. Phu Quoc was unknown to us but our journey were fantastic except got bitten by sand-fly in Bai Sao :-( in remote shaded area. Bravo to the team.

We reserved this property for 3 nights but had to cancel and reserve again on short notice due to flight schedule changes by the airline. Have done this on the www.accorhotels.com website. Called the hotel on the day of arrival to make sure sombody will be there for the complimentary Airport pickup. When we finally arrived, nobody was there and I had to call again so finally after 1/2h wait, we were picked-up. At the hotel, we were brought to the lounge area for a welcome drink and to complete the check-in papers when I noticed that they still had the date of my original reservation and nothing about my cancellation and new reservation. When telling them about it, the first reaction was: "but you have to pay the first night then"! By this time I was already quite confused and a bit angry so I showed them my reservation and cancellation confiration emails. After a while they finally told me that they have had problems with their whole email system the past days and never received my cancellation and new reservation from the ACCOR system... Then I was asked to go to the reception and print all these emails or forward them to the office staff. But as the system still wasn't working right, I was sitting there for about an hour until it finally worked out somehow. During the whole time, not even a glass of water was offered and everyone was acting quit unprofessional. Later in the room I decided to call the manager, Mr. Maximilian, to let him know about the happenings. He was not available but called back later. We had a good talk and he apologized and promised to take care of us and make up for it in some way. Next day we met at the bar again where my girlfriend and I just had a few drinks. Talked again to him just in a casual way about different things, he seemed to be a nice guy. One day later I needed to change some Swiss Francs as all the ATM's were out of order so I went to the reception. There I asked if they can change the CHF but was told: no sir, we only accept US$, Australian$, but no CHF. I thought that was strange and started walking away when I saw the paper with the currecies and rates they change. Sure there was CHF on it! Telling them about their list, they finally changed my CHF... Conclusion: Most staff at this hotel seems not to be trained well and don't act professional in difficult situations and the manager is all bark but no bite, he never made up with anything he had promised us! We were quite disappointed...

Such was our reaction when we turned off the main road on to a dirt track through an alleyway of tiny houses and shops, dodging pedestrians and motor bikes to the gates and finally the outdoor reception of La Veranda Resort. Surprisingly, this was the first hotel in Viet Nam that didn't greet us with a refreshing drink and ice cold towels but the reception staff were very friendly and efficient and we were soon shown to our beautiful room. Room 505 is on ground floor with verandah/porch opening into the palm grove, with a lovely view of lush, green grass, white, pristine clean beach and the sparkling, gentle waves of the ocean (very salty). La Veranda staff keep this stretch of the beach absolutely immaculate - no discarded plastic bags, bottles, paper, jellyfish or dog droppings to be found, yet go beyond the boundaries of their property and you will be disgusted by what you will find in the water and on the beach! The La Veranda attendants on the beach bring their guests iced treats (free of charge), lay out their towels and are very quick to respond to any request. The pool water isn't cold but very soothing and relaxing. Service was great, poolside lunches delicious and once again, guests' needs are quickly ascertained and fulfilled. (One negative and this is aimed at guests, not resort - selfish behaviour of some by "saving" sun beds before breakfast by leaving articles of clothing on them and often as not, returning later in the afternoon!) Our room was very large and well appointed. Bed (which is king sized singles pushed together with separate mosquito netting canopies over), was very comfortable. Plenty of wardrobe hanging space, bathrobes, well stocked, reasonably priced mini bar items, smallish safe (won't take an Apple Laptop), large tv, desk and chair. Verandah & porch has small table (with mosquito oil burner & matches), two easy cane chairs and a wooden clothes dryer/airer. Laundry service is very quick, well priced and clothes well presented upon return. Bathroom was large, good sized shower recess and once guests realise the hot water tap may need to be turned in the opposite direction to what they have at home, the water is very hot! Breakfast buffet was great value for money and range of food was extensive. Egg and Crepe chefs cooked to your liking. Evening meals in the beautiful gardens were delicious & the resident band, delightful. After 3 weeks in Viet Nam, La Veranda, was a relaxing, charming end to our holiday.

Your comments about the pollution and water condition are well noted. I totally agree with your point of view and a lot of times I am surprised and disappointed about the condition of the nature and the 'mind- set' of the people. Certainly the problem sits much deeper. One can only wish and hope, that with the development of Phu Quoc Island the awareness for the nature and the pollution will be educated as well. Our beach patrol already put a lot of effort into the cleaning and maintaining of the beach and water. Usually we welcome every guest at our main reception and guide them to our Le Bar where we serve welcome refreshments including cold towels. We complete the registration process and provide some information about our resort before we escort the guests to the room. I am surprised to read that you could not experience and enjoy this service and have asked the Front Office Manager to give me some feedback and information what might have caused this shortfall. The rooms were average..so much so that if the mgallery branding was remove, it would felt like a better managed local 4star resort. The service staff was not very attentive, and it felt like they were only doing their routine job, without a smile. It was slightly worse at the restaurant - we went for breakfast at 730 and there was not a staff in sight to welcome or sit us down. Request for coffee took the staff few minutes before bringing it over, even though the restaurant was Hardly crowded. The plus point is food at the restaurant is of very good quality, especially the grilled seafood platter. And that is what made the stay enjoyable.
