"Far below expectations"
10th August 2012, nsg007x2, Dubai, United Arab Emirates
This is a Suite Novotel, not a plain Novotel, which appears to operate at a far lower standard than a Novotel. It attracts mostly families from Europe and their philosophy is clearly based on quantity rather than quality. Starting with the room - we had to change 4 rooms because of some problem or the other. The A/C doesn't work well in the entire hotel - in all rooms and the management acts so surprised to hear this. The maintenance person told me that the A/Cs in the entire hotel are substandard. If you go during the summer (July/August), avoid this hotel because you will be hot and sweaty. Breakfast is very limited and due to the mass of people, seating is difficult and food keeps running out. The manager (lady) did her best to accommodate us after I complained, but the problems regarding the AC could not be fixed. The frontdesk staff is mostly incompetent and do not understand the concept of multitasking. The checkin process took almost an hour. A lot of guests were complaining about the service and the problem with the room. This room was clearly designed by some chic designer sitting at Corporate HQ in Europe who recommended a poor design with substandard chinese products that are already showing signs of bad wear and tear. The bathroom doesn't have a proper door. The free internet and movies in the room worked well for 2 hours out of the 4 days we stayed. Several calls to the maintenance crew resulted in the same answer "tout le problème du système" or external systemwide problem. I stay extensively with Accor and this was by far my worst experience.
"Three days in Marrakesh"
2nd June 2012, ElHombreSinNombre, Cupertino, California, USA
Language:When I arrived, the person at the front desk spoke English and the reservation was correct. I do not speak Arabic or French and some reviews mentioned difficulty communicating with hotel staff. I did not have that problem at all and I interacted with 4-5 people over 3 days about making phone calls, storing luggage, checking messages and buying chocolate bar and cokes from the cooler in the lobby.Room:Room had a refrigerator and wifi - no extra charge. TV had English, Arabic, French and one or two other languages. Didn't watch much but it was a decent selection. The room was clean (bathroom, sheets, carpet, etc). One thing to check is the amount of sun the hotel pool gets. I did not use the pool but looked at it one afternoon and the building's shadow was blocking the sun. That could be good if it's really hot or it could be an issue if you want to sit in the sun. If that concerns you, check other reviews or ask the hotel if that is a time of day or time of year thing. Location:I booked a few activities prior to arrival and both companies knew the hotel's address and provided pickup/drop-off service.I walked to McDonald's at Place 16 Novembre (about 20 mins) and Djamaa El Fna (about 15 mins) from the hotel. Easy walks with only a couple of turns. There is a market called Carrefour maybe 10 mins from hotel.Best: WiFi and refrigerator in room, able to store luggage on last day after checking out.Least: Nothing major.Overall, a good place to stay.
"Nice place but service was disappointing"
16th March 2012, lafillette7, London
We had a bit of trouble at this hotel unfortunately. Breakfast was fantastic, turndown service was wonderful, the room was excellent. Marrakech itself is beautiful and the location was very convenient. But the people at the front desk were really unhelpful. They would often ignore you even when you were standing directly in front of them waiting to be helped. One of the people working at the desk actually ignored me for two minutes before leaving the desk unattended for another few. He returned to the general vicinity to chat to another staff member in the back but did not return to the desk even though it was clear I really needed help.We also had trouble with the water in the gym - we had been warned before coming to only drink bottled/purified water to avoid illness. We decided to refill our bottles at the water cooler in the hotel's little gym room. Little did we realise (we realised only later after a lot of pain and discomfort, and an unwillingness to be away from the restroom facilities for too long), that the waterbottle attached to the water cooler had a hole in the top and that the staff must have just been refilling it with tap water...Luckily we only came down with this illness in the last 18 hours of our stay so we managed to squeeze in lots of touristy things on the whole. But we shouldn't have had to go through that.
"1 Night in Marrakesch"
1st June 2011, Switzerland
We used this hotel for our 1st night in Marrakesch. Not to fare away from the airport, easy to find. Quite a walk into the center, but taxi is affordable. Would come back to this hotel any time. Big rooms, ideal also for family with children.
"Nice hotel, good location"
27th May 2011, Sofia, Bulgaria
The location of hotel is very good close to Medina. Medina is in walking distance, but taxi is also not expensive. Don't pay more than 15-20 MAD from Medina to the hotel. We stayed in a room with double bed and two single beds. The room is a little bit small for three people and one of the single bed is on the floor. Service is good. I really recomend this hotel.
