The Phoenix Hotel Yogyakarta - MGallery Collection: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Lovely hotel but choose your room carefully"

22nd May 2012, SingaporeRob, Singapore, Singapore

We booked two rooms: one deluxe overlooking swimming pool, and one suite at the back. The deluxe was comfortable but plain, it was quiet, and had a nice balcony. The suite was larger and better equipped, but unless you want to pray at 4.30am, the Mosque blaring right outside the window will ensure you wake up rather earlier than you want to...The hotel itself is a beautiful oasis of calm, and the service is very friendly and welcoming. By western standards, the service is also however very unattentive and incredibly slow (rude though it may be, you have to wave at waitors to get any attention...). So a mixed bag, but overall a nice stay if you pick your room carefully and are happy to be assertive with the staff !

The Phoenix Hotel Yogyakarta - MGallery Collection: 5.0 out of 5 stars "Unique place with Yogyakarta allure."

20th May 2012, Van007, Surabaya

Located just across the tugu monument, The Phoenix Hotel deserves all the accolades they've been receiving in tripadvisor. We stayed for two nights and were overall satisfied. The room was clean and quiet albeit on the smaller size, the pool is nice, the front desks and staff in general are very helpful and friendly and above all we like the rich colonial feel to the decoration. The breakfast in the morning has a lot of selection from Indonesian to Continental/American (try Jamu or Bubur or Gudeg for something authentic). Great bang for your buck.

The Phoenix Hotel Yogyakarta - MGallery Collection: 5.0 out of 5 stars "JOGYAKARTA TRIP - APRIL 2012"

29th April 2012, Joycelyn23, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

I was recommended by Nicholas of Advantage Plus to stay at Phoenix. I brought the rooms during the mega sales, which I paid USD33.00/night for a boutigue hotel. The rooms are clean, spacious, quite & with balcony. The facade of the building is beautiful especially at night when the the building is lighted with warm lights. The staffs are friendly. The gym is well kept. Located just about 2km from the famous Malioboro Street. You can either walk or try a ride on the trishaw costing 20,000 rupiah or 20 minutes slow walk.If I would travel to Jogyakarta again, I would definitely stay at Phoenix again.

The Phoenix Hotel Yogyakarta - MGallery Collection: 2.0 out of 5 stars "Good value but don't expect international level of service"

16th April 2012, izuizuizu, Kobe

We are accord member and booked through the website. The day before our trip, I got an sms from the hotel asking my credit card number. It was a shocking start of the trip. I would hate to pass my credit information to unknown mobile phone no even though they maybe saying they are from the hotel. The next thing was that we were given a room which balcony was totally covered up with construction materials. We complained to the reception and a manager on duty told us to wait until the next day as they were fully booked. So we decided to put up with the construction materials outside of our balcony. However the next morning, when we came back from our breakfast, we found 4 painters on the construction bars overlooking our room from the balcony and our balcony was totally covered up for painting. Unbelievable. As we complain again to the hotel and we got upgraded to other room but our first night and the next morning there was unpleasant. After I moved to other room, I found the hotel put other guest into the room with a balcony totally covered up on the same day. That means they did not understand my complaint at all. The hotel itself was really really nice, so the HO of the accor hotel should do something with the staff eduction.

The Phoenix Hotel Yogyakarta - MGallery Collection: 5.0 out of 5 stars "Perfect hotel to indulge yourself"

22nd March 2012, Cathleen K, Hoofddorp, The Netherlands

Excellent hotel with friendly staff. Hotel was well situated though not directly Marlioboro street. As soon as you return in the hotel, you loose track of the surroundings. Hotel is decorated with typical Indonesian artcrafts.

The Phoenix Hotel Yogyakarta - MGallery Collection: 3.0 out of 5 stars "Old-school style, poor service"

18th March 2012, shiraxyz, shiraxyz

My husband and I spent three nights at the Phoenix hotel in mid-March as part of a two-week vacation around Indonesia. The hotel's lobby is beautiful, the finishings and decorations beautiful. The room was a little small but very nicely set up. We were a little nervous on the second floor, but it faced the back and was therefore very quiet. Now for the downsides: the food was thoroughly mediocre, with an inedible Caesar salad that had four lettuce leaves and a cup of dressing, and terribly overpriced for the quality. The service throughout our stay was also, um, weird. They advertise a bar in all of their promotional materials, and even in the lobby. My husband and I wanted a late-afternoon drink -- after sightseeing, before dinner -- and we got many curious looks from staffers when we asked where the bar was, or where we could get a drink (beer and iced coffee). It was as if they'd never had anyone ask for this, which I have trouble believing. We also asked about shopping, whether there was anywhere to go for artwork or fun souvenirs beyond Malioboro Street. Once again, utter bafflement on their end, as if nobody could ever want to go anywhere other than the super-touristy mess that is Malioboro. Really? Not a single recommendation for another store? The icing on the cake, though, was when we left. We had a 6am flight to Jakarta. The night before, we asked at the front desk how we could arrange a car so early in the morning, saying we wanted to leave around 3:45am. They said we should just come down then, it'd take 5 minutes to flag a cab and we'd be there in plenty of time. They should have alerted us then that the airport doesn't actually open until about 4:30, so there was no need for us to leave before about 4:10 at the earliest. They could have told us that the night before, or that morning when we checked out and told them numerous times where we were going. There was an overall sense of the staff trying to be nice and polite, but not really taking any initiative in telling us anything beyond the bare minimum, even when those extra details (our tour guide was there, our timing was off, the bar was on the right) would have been tremendously helpful. We are pretty savvy travelers, making our own arrangements for tours and using TripAdvisor for restaurant and activity recommendations. But even we were a little lost. Don't stay here if you want any concierge services or hand-holding!

It was a nice weekend for me and family. The services is very good , they clean the room twice a day!All people that working there are very helpful and friendly. The price is very reasonable for a great room that we have, it was connecting room with the pool view. We all enjoy to relax on the pool with a fresh coconut in the afternoon. The Phoenix Hotel Yogyakarta - MGallery Collection: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Charming hotel"

31st January 2012, Singapore, Singapore

It is a very beautiful hotel with lots of charm, a good breakfast and spacious beautifully decorated rooms. Ask for the rooms with pool view, city view is far less attractive. Restaurant is average. Very friendly staff. However we've experienced some inconveniences: on the first day, we discovered a cockroach in our room which is of course always possible in this climate. On top of that, we had a leaking toilet bowl in another room, so the bathroom was always wet. Although we mentioned it every day of our stay, the staff didn't repair the leak nor offered us another room.Besides this, a great stay!

Nice colonial building, the staff are well trained and provide great service. Good breakfast with traditional gamelan and jamu drinks. Executive sweet spacious and overlooks pool, however a little dull as only 1 window.

Having stayed in such a special place and town makes one feels refresh and invigorated! You might have to add a couple of minutes as the friendly staff at the front desk might be very very busy :). The food was delicious and the spa is a paradise!
