"Very comfortable and good location"

Well presented and the quality of the rooms was good. Pool not being part of the complex was the only disadvantage, therefore didn't feel comfortable to use it plus the hours of operation was awkward. Great location though!!

Try to get a room which looks into the inner court ,as this is more calm than those looking on the main street.I was unlucky that some renovation work started at 7 o'clock in the morning, would have preferred it at 8 o'clock but on the other hand,when it's finished the rooms are new.The hotel has a swimming pool (which is shared with a Retirement home ) and a saunaopen quite late ( approx. 22.00) but I did not have the opportunity to test these facilities. I will do it next time and report.Staff is friendly even late at night. Breakfast buffet is ok, although a little bit too 'german' for me. No smoked salmon and organic food though.

I had an excellent trip here. Stayed for 3 nights. I have stayed with a mate before and enjoyed it then too.The staff are friendly and very helpful. The breakfast had a very good selection too. Wifi could be free as we stayed at another Accor hotel which had free wifi, but a very small issue.Very close to Philamonie/Saalbau Ubahn station and only a 10/15min walk to Essen Train station.I am planning to stay again.

I stayed one night at this hotel for a business meeting. A pleasant surprise at check-in was that for some reason I had received a free upgrade to a large suite on the fifth floor, which consisted of two separate rooms with a great view over downtown Essen. Hotel staff friendly and good breakfast selection. Close to the metro which has fast connections to train station and Messe area.

The Mercure Hotel Plaza Essen is a great hotel for a stay in Essen. It is a bit south of the "altstadt" of Essen, but in a good location near an U-Bahn stop and next to the Museum Folkwang. The "Ru" street is nearby where many restaurants are located. The hotel is clean, the rooms are good size for a European hotel and the breakfast buffet is excellent. The front desk staff is very helpful. As the hotel is on a busy street, be sure to ask for a room on the backside (which we had). As our room was on the backside it was very quiet and the room had nice dark curtains.
