Room itself was lovely. However was not keen on the two separate mattress on the "queen" bed. Found the room to be very cold even when the heating was on 24 degrees - seemed to be blowing out cold air so didn't sleep very well at all.
I've stayed at this hotel 3 other times in the past. Its city centre location with proximity to shopping was what drew me in the first place. Sadly, The quality has degenerated since my first stay. I got there really late on thr 2nd day. I couldn't make it the 1st day and had called to let the hotel know and was told no problems, as my stay was prepaid. On arrival late at night, with 2 kids, I was told I had checked in. Took a few minutes to sort this. I wasn't offered any welcome drinks for my Accor membership tier. Once the checkin issue was sorted I got to my room with my many cases to find the room covered in black mold. I called reception to conplain. I was told to come down to pick up keys to move to another room. I moved 1 case and the kids only to get to the new room to find it was also covered in black mould. Rather than move all our bags, I opted to return to the first room. Because I was exhausted after a long trip and didn't want to bother to move all my bags and kids to another room which wasn't any better than the first. I was told a note had been put in the system and the manager would talk to me the next day. Unfortunately, throughout my 2 days stay, I never heard from the manager on this issue and we had to stay in the room that way. After settling in, we discovered the room heating didn't work. I called reception again to complain. Was told they would reset and room would heat up in 30 mins. Unfortunately, that didn't happen and we had to sleep in the cold room that night. At breakfast juice, runs out and all the waiting staff could say was "we're sorry juice has finished". Overall I was very unhappy with my stay this time and I doubt I will return to Ibis again. I didn't get value at all for the money paid. Next time I will look at other hotels nearby.
Dear Reviewer, Thank you for taking the time to leave us your feedback. I am so sorry for the issues you were faced with during your stay. We currently have had a change over in staff who are still learning the Accor benefits, I plan to change reception processes to make this much clearer. In relation to the room we are addressing this issue not that this is an excuse as you should have been placed in a room with no problems. I myself am the Manager and may not have been in and the message may not have been relayed to me upon my return, so again I apologise for this. I will speak with the breakfast hosts as they should not have given this kind of response. I am sorry your stay was not one that demonstrated the good service we promise to deliver. Please accept my apologies and I would like to welcome you back into the hotel, if you could contact myself directly then I would be happy to arrange some discounts. Kind regards Hannah Chapman
The ibis is in a convenient location in the center of the rather aesthetically challenged town of Stevenage, a short walk from both the railway and bus stations. There also looked to be plenty of car parking around. There are the usual crap-town chains like Tesco, Costa, McDonalds, Poundland and a 97p shop (someone's clearly spotted a gap in the market there) within easy walking distance. The hotel lobby, if you could call it such is little more than a desk, it's tiny. The check in agent was friendly enough and asked me if I'd stayed before. I told him I'd not, but had stayed in plenty of other ibis hotels and they're all the same. He seemed a little affronted about this, agreed that they are similar, but that "this one has six floors". I smiled, not wanting to deflate him by letting him know there are taller ibis hotels out in the world beyond Stevenage. In fairness, when I got in to my room I was pleased to see that there was a real bathroom with lots of space, instead of that terrible pod many Ibis's have, still the horrible communal shower gel bottles fixed to the wall though but it was very clean, as was the whole room. The beds weren't the new ibis beds but were large and comfortable enough. I slept well and didn't hear any noise from other rooms or outside. I was on the fifth floor (not the sixth) facing south, there were large windows but all you could really see was the concrete expanse of central Stevenage, there really is a lot of concrete out there! All in all, it's not the sort of hotel you'd come to for a romantic getaway, but if you need to somewhere clean, comfortable and central in the town without breaking the bank, you could do much worse. Free wifi worked well. I'd stay again if I needed to. I didn't use the bar or eat here so can't comment on the food, but the prices and the choices on the menu card in the room looked reasonable enough.

Cafe very basic asks some staff could benefit from additional training. The room however was comfortable and practical for business travel and reception staff accommodated a business breakfast for myself and my colleague who were starring at the hotel plus a further 5 colleagues who were not at short notice. All in pretty good.
