"An ok place to stay in NYC"

The Sofitel New York is one of those high-end places in NYC right near the action yet it is not a grand hotel. The room we stayed in, although spacious (for NYC standards), was ok but average (and on the lower level where you rather not have a window as there is no purpose in looking at the dirty buildings next door). And, except for the one bar/restaurant, the hotel offers no other bar/food services. But then I suppose you have those all around you in the city. For the price paid one can do better even in Manhattan.

Sofitel is our brand of choice and Sofitel NY our first choice in NY. Location is great! Close to theatres but not right in Times Square. Short walk to several subways and Grand Central.Rooms spacious for New york. Ask for Chrsyler Bldg view. Bathrooms are great and amenities wonderful. Service is impeccable-5 star at 4 star price.

Check in was fast and courteous. Location in mid-town was great -- just far enough away from Times Square to avoid the crowds and noise, but close enough to reach top rated dining and theatre in just a few minutes on foot. Our room was very quiet and hotel staff was top notch. The hotel is everything you expect in a luxury property. The on-site dining is exellent.

Beautiful room. Pleasant service. Good sound insulation. Yes, you can still hear a jackhammer on the street below. But as a suburbanite, I had no problem sleeping. The hotel staff was friendly, the bathroom was beautiful, and the bed was comfortable. I wasn't sure what to say for value. The hotel isn't cheap, but it's in midtown Manhattan. There's no such thing as an inexpensive hotel there. But the hotel itself is beautiful and comfortable. We didn't use much of the amenties, but a gym and bar/restaurant are on-premises.

I stayed at the hotel for 7 nights after staying at the hotel last year. I was not impressed with the service at the door in the restaurant or with attitude of staff. I felt that a luxury hotel that sofitel new york claim to be would have provided a better service and meet the standards of other Sofitels around the world.The wireless Internet was very poor and to charge $40 for 3-4 days of "fast broadband" was not acceptable for business or family travel, I have stayed at Hilton, Intercontinental and other 5 star luxury hotels without having to pay for Internet access. On top of all of this I found out at day of check in my a-club membership had been changed due to a loyalty card change in program, this was not acceptable and I felt betrayed by Accor that I did not get notified about the program change and losing my member status. I have been loyal to Accor for years and prefer to stay at sofitels however I now will revise my travel commitments for my staff and family in the future. I contacted a Sofitel service manager the night before checkout expressing my concern and I was not followed up at checkout, this is very poor customer service on the managers behalf and I left New York unhappy.

"Best Hotel in New York"

The location of the hotel is great because it is in the middle of Times Square and Fifth Avenue. Everything was just walking distance from the hotel. Also, there are lots of good restaurants to try within the area which is always a plus.As for the hotel room, it was spacious and both the bed and pillows were so soft which gave us a good night's sleep.I also enjoyed the free WIFI in our hotel room because I was able to work from abroad and book city tours and hotel transfers during my stay in New York.Definitely one of the best hotels so far.

Great hotel, we have stayed 3 times now and never disappointed!Very handy for Times Square, Central Park and 5th Avenue.Local diner and coffee bar make breakfast a bit cheaper than the hotel offering and good quality.

This is an excelent hotel in a first class location. Close to Time Square and Broadway but on a quieter steet. The service and staff were first class. The room was of the highest quality although stragely for the US no coffee making facilities. All round a great hotel

Room: My wife and I, both senior citizens, greatly appreciated the calm of our 17th-floor superior room and the comfort of the bed and chairs. Bathroom: Rounded tops made the sink faucets difficult to operate with wet hands; the ceiling-mounted shower head in the (large) shower stall was fixed, making it hard to shower without wetting one's hair; the bathtub had a movable shower wand, but no shower curtain; while the lighting was good, the shaving/makeup mirror was not on an extensible arm, so one could only see one side of one's face well.Services: The staff were attentive and the concierge provided reliable recommendations for restaurants in a range of styles and prices. We ate in the hotel restaurant (last service 10.30 p.m.) only on the night we arrived: the food was good but expensive and one dish was not entirely as described by the waiter. Other than Japan TV, the in-room TV had only one non-US channel, the French-language TV5 Monde. Use of the computers and printer in the lobby was free.Location: Excellent for tourists; on a quiet (for NYC) block with little through traffic and just a few minutes' walk from the mid-town attractions and bus and subway stops for travel to all parts of the city and the airports.

we love this hotel. Perfect location for theater and shopping. The restaurants nearby are great. We love the junior suite in the corner for a quiet location. The closet space is so spacious You have a separate shower and tub.

From the minute you step inside the lobby to the moment you check out you will feel like a star. The One bedroom suite we had was just enormous, the bed was incredibly comfortable and the amenities were just sublime. The Hermes soaps and body lotions where so special.

This is the best hotel I've stayed in NYC. The staff is extremely courteous, the rooms are clean and with enough space for 2. The bathroom products are from L'Occitane and there is a Bose system on the bedside table.Do not miss breakfast at Gabi: the hotel restaurant is delicious.

"Superb Choice"

Excellent hotel. Prime location with everything close at hand. Far enough away from the hustle and bustle of Times Square (1.5 blocks) to not be inconvenienced by the noise etc. Service and facilities would be extremely hard to beat. Would definitely recommend the hotel and will stay there again.

We recently stayed at the Sofitel New York and were impressed from the moment we arrived to the moment we checked out. The level of friendliness and service surpassed any hotel we've stayed in recently. We stayed in a junior suite, which provided us ample work space and a separate area to sleep. The wonderful staff even provided us with Sofitel cufflinks, when my husband found that he had forgotten his. Finally, the hotel restaurant and bar, Gaby, has fun cocktails, a fine wine selection, and a broad menu that is appealing to all tastes.

The hotel is located in a great location. The staff were great. The Lobby is like an oasis in the busy city. We ate in their Gaby restaurant for lunch and supper and the food was very good as well. Please ask for an inside courtyard room if you don't want to hear the New York traffic.

We booked a suite at Sofitel for our stay in New York - we got a fairly good deal (pay for 2 - stay 3 nights), and it was definitely worth it (only breakfast was not included)The beds were really comfortable, custom made for Sofitel. I still had jetlag and woke early, so I tried out the fitness center one morning and it was very practical. The elevator down to B1, and the fitness center had all the accessories needed for a good workout, water, towels and some apples afterwards.Sofitel is really in the heart of New York. We attended Lenny Kravitz at Radio City Music Hall, and it took us just 5 minutes to walk back to the hotel afterwards. New York Public Library is just 2 streets down, and wonderful Bryant Park were we enjoyed some warm soup and bagels while watching people skate at the rink that was set up for our stay. I would definitely stay at this hotel if I come back to New York.

Excellent Midtown location. Silent and quiet rooms with excellent beds. Not a fancy or trendy place, but a solid traditional aset for those who want a comfortable place to stay in Manhattan. The Gaby restaurant is not cheap, but is good with a pro service. Third time I stay tehre, I'll again.

Always my choice when traveling to NY - a nice, warm and super convenient location. Within a reasonable taxi ride, this could takes us all the way to Meat Packing District or East Village - not to mention walking distance to Rockafellar.
