Very comfortable and unobtrusive. Another Mercure hotel on the Terrace that we had booked was closed for refurbishments but we weren't told so we had to traipse around central Wellington for a while with our luggage before we found another Mercure hotel that was full but the staff were helpful and said that our booking had been transferred to the Novotel. We took a taxi to the Novotel and were in a complaining mood but the hotel was nice and essentially it was an upgrade. Time was on our side, fortunately, so tout est bien qui finit bien.
Value for money, this place is pretty solid. The location is really weird and if I'm keeping things relative, I would say that it's a bad location because it's not really close to any attractions. However, Wellington is small and you can walk to a ton of attractions from this hotel. The staff here was okay. The morning staff was might nicer than the night staff. Check-in was easy and the front desk was helpful. Breakfast was great and it was a pretty nice view. The room needed work and in general this property could use some updates. It's a pretty good night's sleep though.
Dear jssokolo, Thank you for your feedback regarding your recent stay with us at Mercure Wellington. I am pleased that you enjoyed the views, breakfast and service provided by the team during your stay. Once again thank you for sharing your experience with us. Kind regards Rob Poole
Great view and good location for walking into Wellington. Service good until the door pass failed which took several attempts to fix. Wine in an ice bucket but no indication if it was complimentary. The hotel is showing its age and numerous minor items require maintenance. Would benefit from refurbishment.
Dear Phil_dowsett, Thank you for taking the time to write your review. We are delighted to read that you enjoyed your stay and yes the wine was complimentary. I have noted your comments and the Hotel is in the final planning stages for a Hotel refurbishment. Kind regards Rob Poole
We stayed on a Monday - the night after the Edinburgh Tattoo. For that night we could only get a room at YHA, or pay in excess of $400 per night at the only available places in WEllington! Normally, we would stay at the Ibis in the heart of the city (and with the Accor card an excellent dinner) - however, 3 bus tours were booked in and we were too late to get a place there. Hence, we stayed briefly at the Mercure -which was a bit less convenient than we initially thought! That was our problem, because as we discovered a #& or #8 bus from central Wellington quickly drops you at the top of Willis Street. Still a good walk (uphill) to the basement lift - but not beyond us (both 70). Even easier going back via Victoria St. The room was spacious, clean and a half view of the harbour - standard sort of decor but excellent value with Breakfast included. Staff were helpful and courteous. We were there barely 15 hours as we spent much of the day out (don't miss the War Memorial World War I Exhibition - it is outstanding!). We would still stay closer to town in the future but this was a very cost effective alternative and it was closer to the Exhibition we wanted to see.
Dear JeffandJess288, Thank you for your feedback with regards to your recent stay at Mercure Wellington. I am pleased to note that we could accommodate you over a very busy week in Wellington and you found the change in Hotels and our location to your liking. We are close to many of Wellington's great attractions and it looks as if you have been busy during your short visit. We look forward to the opportunity of welcoming you back again soon to either Mercure or Ibis the next time you are in the Capital. Kind regards Rob Poole
The location is, perhaps, a little out of the way but, the whole atmosphere of this hotel is excellent. Initial reception was business like and friendly - we arrived early but the staff soon had us in our room. The room was clean and comfortable. A good comfortable bed. The dining room room comfortable;e and meals were brought to the table promptly. Staff at this hotel - reception, dining room and house - are exceptionally friendly. Although the house was full the staff went out of their way to be of service and to be helpful - well done. Yes,I recommend this hotel and would certainly stay there again.
