Second Class Treatment in Non-"Privilege" Rooms, not fit for a 4-star hotel

Since we've been to 4-star Mercures elsewhere, we were surprised not to see a conditioner, a lotion and a shower cap in the bathroom. I took a photo of a sign that said because the hotel was Green, it was limiting toiletry supplies but that our "favourite" toiletries are available and are at our disposal, if requested at the reception. Well we asked, but was rather curtly told at reception that no, we can't have them because we do not have a "privilege" room. We were not asking for a bottle of lotion or conditioner, just the old single use packets or bottles as stated in the sign. (And btw, my colleague had a privilege room, and had to ask for room slippers which the website said would be provided with the room.) We did not get a Nespresso machine - that's fair "because we were not privileged" - but our room coffee supplies, teas and creamers were not replenished after the first day. I had to ask for them each day. This is not 4-star treatment; other 3-star hotels treat their guests better. Very disappointed. Mercure Nijmegen advertises itself as 4-star; we beg to disagree.

Our commitment to sustainability does indeed mean we have adjusted the provision of toiletries, yet we strive to meet our guests' needs when requested, and we apologize if this was not properly communicated to you. We do not offer single use amenities anymore. We offer sewing kits, shower caps etc.if requested, at the reception. Unfortunately we do not have small bottles of toiletries anymore. We are sorry if this was not correctly communicated and understand your comments in this regard. We also take note of your comment regarding the replenishment of coffee supplies. Our standard is to ensure that all room amenities are fully restocked each day, and we regret if this was not your experience. We hope to be able to welcome you back for an improved stay. Nice hotel,good location at the train station,very clean,comfortable beds, good breakfast,friendly helpful staff,rooms good sized! Would definitely use again but find a supermarket cause the shop at the hotel was expensive! Only downside it had!!

Our stay was lovely, nice and quiet, rooms exceptionally clean and comfortable. The real bonus was the staff and how friendly and helpful they were. Couldn’t have done any more to make the stay better. We will definitely return to this hotel On our next trip.
