Mercure Hotel Amsterdam City: 2.0 out of 5 stars "Drain sound from the shower."

4th January 2013, ErlendKj, Oslo, Norway

The hotel had a good standard, and a nice breakfast, but everytime someone took a shower, I could hear loud sounds coming from the drain in the shower. This is not great when you try to sleep. This was in room 7007. I do not think that I will return for this simple reason.Regards,Erlend Kjesæth

Mercure Hotel Amsterdam City: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Great base for any kind of stay"

15th November 2012

Nice hotel, clean and well looked after, a 5-10 minute walk to the metro station which takes you right into the center in just 10 minutes. Perfect base away from the busy center but close enough to make getting into town easy. Would stay there again definately.

Management responseDear Sir / Madam,Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience at the Mercure Hotel Amsterdam Aan De Amstel. I am sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations; please allow me to express my sincerest apologies. We are located just in the outskirt of Amsterdam and fairly close to public transportations. Next to that if you would like to easily access the city I can suggest renting a bicycle with us or a Vespa scooter. The towels in the hotels are regularly checked on manufacturing date and we regularly add new towels to the inventory. Currently we are looking into your comment regarding the towels. I was surprised to read about your experiences during breakfast. We receive very little complaints about the breakfast and mostly receive excellent reviews. We serve an extended breakfast buffet with various cold cut meats and different kind of cheeses. Something of which I believe is an unique selling point is our freshly squeezed orange juice and fresh ground coffee. Our breakfast prices are in accordance with market prices.I hope to welcome you again in the Mercure Hotel Amsterdam aan de Amstel for you next visit to Amsterdam. With the kindest regards,Robert van Vliet General Manager

12th July 2012, Kaiserslautern, Germany

This was a wonderful location, easy to reach, once you arrive no need to drive; the public transportation is right there for you to use. The rooms were great with American size beds which were very comfortable.

Mercure Hotel Amsterdam City: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Good value if you book ahead on a deal"

29th June 2012, Welwyn Garden City, United Kingdom

I have visited Amsterdam many times - earlier trips were for work - and its not an easy place to get the right balance between hotel quality, cost and location. i wanted the room style & comfort level, and some facilities (e.g. a room safe) that you get with a Mercure. i booked and paid several months ahead and got a good room rate including breakfast; I probably wouldn't have stayed at the full rate. I wasn't disappointed with the overall comfort level and quality, and the staff were very welcoming and helpful. Breakfast was excellent, with a wide choice. This is a large hotel, so breakfast could get very busy at peak times if the hotel were full. The staff did a good job of keeping things replenished. I noticed a few things about the room which weren't a problem for me, but would have been on a stay of several days with my wife: absence of drawer storage, no room mirror, and a (large walk-in) shower, so no bath. The biggest negative was location if you are reliant on public transport, as i was. I used the 51 metro at Overamstel mostly (station is unmanned). The station is about a 10 minute walk to the hotel. You can save a few minutes by taking the station exit at the front of the train (coming from city), and then once through the turnstiles take the route under the road and along the pavement by the side of the long, low building ahead of you. I sometimes switched to the 7 or 10 tram at Weesperplein (a good interchange). i think the metro was more frequent, quicker into town and slightly nearer to the hotel than the 25 tram terminus that is across the river. But overall the journey was a pain if you wanted to go back to the hotel and then go out again later. Also, there are no other shops or places to eat near the hotel. I returned to Schiphol by taking the metro one stop to RAI, and changing there to the NS train to the airport - much quicker and slightly cheaper than going back into town. (I'd do the reverse on arrival another time. And buy a multi-day GVB ticket from the machine at the RAI metro.)

Mercure Hotel Amsterdam City: 3.0 out of 5 stars "Nice hotel but far from tourist attraction"

11th June 2012, Eva4travel, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada

The hotel is pretty decent but the location is far off from the museums and other tourist attractions. We took the Metro everyday to Central Station; from there we walked to museums. The room is not that big, not much space to walk around; nice view from our window; we can see the river.

Management responseDear Sir / Madam,First of all I would like to thank you for your review. It is always good to know how our guests experience our hotel and services. Our location is convenient close to the Amsterdam Rai and the historic city centre. The nearest transportation is in walking distance and it takes you directly to the Central Station. Next to that the metro stops at several tourist attractions during its ride to Central Station.Another fun way to explore Amsterdam is by hiring one of our Vespa Scooters with allows you to go where ever you would like. I hope to welcome you again in our hotel. With the kindest regards,Robert van Vliet General Manager

Mercure Hotel Amsterdam City: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Mercure Hotel Amsterdam"

1st April 2012, Ahmedabad, India

This hotel is a good value for money. Its at walking distance from the biggest convention centre in Amsterdam and therefore very convenient if you are attending a conference. The rooms are neat and well planned. Free wi-fi is additional bonus. The resturent has good choice of menu and drinks. Overall a good experience.

Mercure Hotel Amsterdam City: 3.0 out of 5 stars "Mercure Feb 2012"

7th February 2012, Brussels, Belgium

Very bad elevator management. Very often waiting times of more than 15 minutes! The price of the breakfast is much too high.No swimming poolPositive: not far away from the RAI exhibition hall.General Accor standards, is not a (bad surprise)

Mercure Hotel Amsterdam City: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Great hotel great service"

30th January 2012, aleese, london

I stay here quite a bit on business as its handy for me. Hotel amenities are great, sauna, gym, etc. Downside the food bar is limited and there isnt too much else nearby so 3 nights stay and you've eaten the menu. Plus side, staff are great and friendly, breakfast is usually very good (although can suffer at times when the coaches are in). Free wifi is perfect and its easy to get to airport from there.Always stay here for business, probably wouldnt stay for leisure as its a bit far out of town but tram stop just over the bridge and train station (over amstel) just 5 mins walk.

Mercure Hotel Amsterdam City: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Mercure ann de Amstel"

26th September 2011, The Hague, The Netherlands

Very good hotel. Good service, nice rooms (the view is great if you are on a high floor) and good breakfast and restaurants.Location is very peripheric, it was perfect for our trip (zouk congress 1 Km from the hotel) but less attractive for other parts of Amsterdam.Only two negative points: waiting times at the reception can be long if you are unlucky and parking is a bit expensive given you are quite far from the center.

Management responseDear Guest,Thank you very much for your reply on Tripadvisor. It is always pleasant to hear that you liked our hotel. I am very sorry you had to wait at the reception, I can assure you that this is an exceptional incident. Please allow me to explain the parking costs. As we are an hotel just outside the city centre, we decided to ask less than half the price for a day parking in the city centre. In front of the hotel, there is public parking which is also payed parking. If you pay for our parking plus public transportion cards, it will be much cheaper than parking in the city centre and then you might need public transportation cards as well. The metro stops at 300 meter of the hotel and tram is at about 500 meter of the hotel. It is my hope you understand that the parking cost are not that high in comparison with other hotels.Thank you again for your very positive comments on Tripadvisor.Best regards,Willem Bleuland van OordtGeneral Manager
