Very good hotel but they charge you $5,00 if you send any boxes/packages from internet (like Amazon, Ebay, online gift stores, etc) to the hotel. The shuttle to airport is very convinient and usefull.View management response »

Sofitel is a very nice hotel, specially in our case when we arrived in the evening on Miami airport after a long flight. The free shuttle bus picked us up and took us to the hotel within 10 min.Next day we visited Miami and the second day we took the shuttle bus to the airport to pick up our car for making a tour in South Of Florida.The rooms in the hotel are very nice, great service and very nice breakfast.View management response »

"September Sofitel Miami trip"

The hotel's staff is excellent. Check in was quick and professional. The room was very clean and comfortable. I was advised by Ms.Rojas that the hotel is currently under renovations and I am happy to learn of this. The hotel is completely different from my previous experiences at the other Sofitel hotels that I have stayed. The other Sofitel hotels are more modern with updated rooms and bathrooms. I've stayed at the Sofitel Miami several times with friends and have always found it to be an excellent choice -- top-notch service, perfect size, quality restaurant and well-located. Plus, the complimentary shuttle to and from the airport is a real bonus. Good choice.View management response »

"Misleading and deceitful "hotel policy""

I booked this hotel a month before my arrival and paid for it. Because I did this, I could not cancel my reservation. When I arrived to check in on August 21st, they asked for a credit card. I said, "why? isn't the room already paid for?" They said, "Yes, but it is the hotel's policy to hold a credit card for incidentals." I didn't have a credit card, so I gave them a debit card since I only stayed one night and I was flying out the next morning. When I checked out they said, "you are ok to go, you incurred no extra charges." I went to the airport and when I pulled out the debit card to pay for my suitcase, they said I had insufficient funds. I called the bank and it turned out that Sofitel had put a hold of $50 on my checking account until the 24th and they told me I had to call the hotel so they would credit back the funds to my account because if a transaction shows as "pending" I cannot access my very own money. I called Sofitel several times and after lines dropped and many transfers, I was able to speak to someone who said it was the hotel's policy. I was very mad because I could not use my own money and felt I had been robbed by this people. He said he'd call me back, which he did a few minutes later to tell me he had credited my funds back. This was a total lie because the funds were "pending" until August 24th (yesterday). Because of this, I had to cram my stuff into my carry-on and give away my new expensive suitcase to the cleaning lady at the airport. Also, a check I had mailed could not be cashed on the 23rd, for which I was charged a penalty. I think this "hotel policy" is very wrong and deceitful and I am pretty sure, they are making money on people's money. When I was asked for a credit card, I thought they would retain my information in case of an extra charge, not that they would go ahead and take $50 from my account for several days. I will NEVER stay at this hotel again and will make sure to tell everyone.View management response »

Booked a room with king size bed and view, got two queen and a roof view. Room had no fridge or safe. Generally dark and gloomy feel in the room. Got there late and asked if possible to stay another night and rest the next day, was told it was ok. Unfortunately. was unable to change my plans the following morning and had to check out as originally planed. Having spent 12hrs in the hotel was charged for the two nights. Did not have the time and argue the point so paid and have tried to take up the matter the following day. No reply to emails and unable to speak with management via phone.On the brighter side, the shuttle driver was nice and helpful. The restaurant staff are pretty good as well. Will be going back to Miami shortly. Will book in somewhere else.View management response »

"Average hotel with rooms in need of renovation"

I booked at the Sofitel Miami because I needed a convenient hotel near the airport for a very early return flight. For that purpose, it was more than sufficient. The rooms are dated and in need of significant upgrade. They're kept clean, but feel about 20 years out of date (especially the bathrooms). The pool is small, and there is not enough pool equipment for the guests who might want to sun themselves (despite there being plenty of space). The front desk staff was adequate, not exceptional. While the price for parking wasn't outrageous, it seemed unnecessary. The machine they use to check parking cards as you enter are not properly grounded (electrical) as they shocked me each and every time I touched one (half dozen times). Still, the price is low on their website (they seem to know it's a lackluster property) so I cannot complain too much. It did what was expected, nothing more.View management response »

Location is very good for airport purposes although not far from downtown miami if you have a car..we were on our last night of our 2 week journey in florida and really enjoyed it. First off -- EXCELLENT VALUE! Cheap but very decent rooms! Next - two minutes to main highway, ten minutes to the airport and three minutes to major companies along Blue Lagoon Drive, under two minutes to athe nearby strip mall with UPS, Starbucks, Chinese restaurant, Office Depot etc. - very convenient. Five minutes to 2 major malls!Then - staff were delightful, very friendly and helpful. We found live bedbug! This is not a luxury hotel either, carpets so stained we were shocked they have not replaced. Just an old hotel sort of remodeled, but not really. Sofitel should be ashamed. Terrible customer service and management; promises broken too. Restaurant just OK and very expensive. Charged for parking and it's not in crowded area, so just a way to hide fees. Location is not easy to find nor convenient to anything. AVOID.
