We have visited this hotel many times and it never fails to deliver outstanding service. Rooms are spotlessly clean. The standard of service provided by all the staff is exceptional. The location is great for exploration. I would recommend this hotel to everyone who is visiting Amsterdam.

We have stayed in many fine and historic hotels in many cities over the years, but this has become our favourite, primarily because of the efficient, thoughtful and kind service provided by the people working there. It feels wrong to single out individuals but Zsa Zsa Zanolie and Niels Essink both go far out of their way to make us feel welcome, and the whole front of house team are exceptional - really far better than in other hotels in which we have stayed. We very much appreciate and like the breakfast team with Lilian, Hester, Will, Florian and the whole team. Breakfast is such a difficult meal to get right in a big hotel, with no reservations and the time pressure - this team are brilliant. Mauricio and all the butler team could not be more helpful and are also very much appreciated by us. I would recommend that anyone thinking of spending any time in beautiful and historic Amsterdam to stay at this hotel, and to speak to the excellent Concierge team, who know the city better than anyone and will help you to make the most of your time. And finally, a word for the Housekeeping service. The standards of cleanliness at this hotel are truly exceptional, and the housekeeping service is an important part of what makes the hotel special. And on top of all of this, the hotel itself is a beautiful historic building situated in the heart of Amsterdam. I heartily recommend it.

We enjoyed a weekend break at the Sofitel Legend and it was a fantastic experience. The staff are very welcoming, very helpful, and I particularly enjoyed the breakfast staff who were very friendly and extremely professional.

Hotel facility is excellent, service could be improved!

Firstly, it's notable that complimentary water isn't readily available in the guest rooms and must be requested, which is unusual for a five-star hotel. Additionally, the delay in delivering the water upon request is significantly prolonged, which doesn't align with the service standards expected at such establishments globally. Secondly, on Friday, May 3rd, two of our delegates, including the president of a prominent Michigan company, experienced a concerning incident at the hotel restaurant, Oriole. Despite the restaurant not being particularly busy, they were completely ignored for half an hour without any staff attending to their table. Consequently, they were compelled to leave without having lunch, impacting their schedule for a subsequent business meeting at 2:30 pm. Lastly, I personally experienced a troubling encounter during breakfast on both May 2nd and May 4th. I found myself consistently ignored by a specific waitress on both occasions at the breakfast. Despite her attentive service to other guests, she’s on purposely neglected to check on me or clear my table unless been asked. I left the breakfast feeling been discriminated. On May 4th upon arrival, after enduring a ten-minute wait for her attention, I had to call her and ask her why she always ignored me. Unfortunately, this led to a confrontational exchange where she defensively denied any neglect, escalating the situation unnecessarily. I had to tell her I didn’t want to argue to stop her. This waitress acted extremely unprofessionally and disturbed not only myself but other guests at the breakfast. On both days it was not busy with many empty tables around. Subsequently, during that same breakfast service on May 4th, I experienced something wield. I kept receiving different dishes I never ever ordered. But all I ordered was an egg benedict which I already got. While it's uncertain if this was a deliberate act of retaliation by this specific waitress (her photo is attached with this email), it certainly contributed to a sense of frustration with the overall quality of service. I have to say though, the breakfast on May 3rd was excellent with a different waitress attended me. Although the hotel is gorgeous with great facilities, considering the experience above, we will not be returning next year. This needs to be submitted to Sofitel management for attention.

Good, but not good for a 5-star hotel

It is a beautiful hotel, and it is situating close to most places one would want to see in Amsterdam. We had a junior suite which was roomy and clean. The main problem, however, was the bed: it was singularly uncomfortable for two people to sleep on. The mattress had something on top of it, under the sheets, but whatever it was, it was uneven and thicker in the middle than at the edges on the bed. We could not rest well in the night and woke up with back pain in the morning. Less important problems, but still annoying: very little light in the room, and not immaculate room service. On our second day my pajamas were thrown crumpled on our suitcase rather than neatly folded and left on the bed, and I had to call the "butler" to ask for coffee pods for the coffee machine. All of these problems (except for the bed) are easy to ignore, but for a 5 star hotel with about $1,000 per day price tag it is disappointing. I also thought the "butler service" was really a gimmick, the hotel would do good to eliminate this fake luxury item.
