I love the Novotel because of its position. It’s an easy walk to restaurants and city centre as well to West Row where we catch the bus to Cooma.

Tired rooms and disappointing dining

Hey guys, stayed in the Novotel for Anzac day, check in fine, no dramas at all. Bathrooms in room are quite tired with minimal decor and towel knobs etc that were wobbly but not a huge issue. Some new decor in the main room area wouldn't hurt but overall the rooms are comfortable to the two adults and two little ones. Our main issue was with the restaurant. We stayed with another family. So 8 in total, 2 families each of four. We had dinner the first night for our daughters birthday. When ordering we asked to have our meals placed on the relevant room number which was not an issue for the wait staff. However when our meals turned up, we only had two kids meals from one family delivered, and two mains from the second family delivered. There was then a huge delay until the two additional kids meals were brought out, and then about half hour later we had to ask where the two remaining adult mains were as they had not been delivered. Look we all got fed and we were happy to go about our business. Two nights later, just our family ate there for our last night. We arrived about 530pm for a 6pm booking as we were looking to have a drink in the cocktail bar area. All seats were taken so we were seated at our table. We ordered some drinks and everything was fine. About half hour later our waiter came back and we ordered a charcuterie board and kids meals. These took I'm guessing 30-40 minutes to come out which is odd for two kids meals and this type of entree. We ate that and we're waiting for our waitress to come over, eventually, approximately 30-40minutes later I had to call her over to order our mains. We ordered and waited another hour approximately and our mains had not arrived. I called the waitress over and asked her to check where they were, she came back and advised 'they will be out in two minutes' about 5-10 minutes they actually arrived. We were basically ignored in the restaurant for about 3 hours, the main waiter did come over at one point and apologise for the delays in everything, but this was actually before we'd begun to notice the delays. The restaurant was near on empty, the largest crowd was a group of oldies having a buffet. We then started to notice tables who arrived after us receiving their food before us, and in multiple occasions finishing their meal and leaving. My wife and I joked at the time as we were playing a drawing game with our daughter, and joked that we'd gone through an entire crayon whilst waiting. Then when we were paying the bill the waitress had charged us the wrong amount, she was actually about to charge us another tables bill. We then had to remind her of the Accor meal discounts that we were eligible for. It was such a weird experience because generally when we have eaten at First Edition it's been really good. Will put it down to a bad day at the office as the NRL Sharks we staying at the hotel and perhaps the food emphasis was on them, but overall a pretty disappointing dining experience.

Our stay was indeed way beyond our expectation. The team in Novotel Canberra headed by Jesicca made sure our stay was top notch. They have taken on board our review and suggestions from our last visit. We are extremely grateful for the attention to detail that was put to make sure our stay was impeccable. The team has also organised a lovely surprise for my son for which we are extremely thankful!

Great location but a little tired. Bar area not very big considering the size of the Hotel.
