good honest room for the price,very clean, excellent location near the beach, the breakfast was very poor , untrained staff , and ,....at dinner....I FOUND SOME PIGS TROTTER PHALANX IN MY " PORK RIBS "....IN THEIR RESTAURANT !!!!! NEVER AGAIN !

Stayed in three hotels as part of a tour and this was our least favourite. I'd read some reviews beforehand so was prepared but we were still very disappointed. The location of the hotel is a great, just a couple of minutes walk to the beach and there are restaurants, cafes and a supermarket within easy walking distance. The view from the gym and pool areas are also fantastic! Check in was totally chaotic, no proper queue, people pushing in, jostling etc and it took ages just to be given the key (we had prepaid). As a family of four we had booked two rooms - these were 4 floors apart which isn't ideal. Getting to and from the bedrooms was tricky as the lifts are very slow and busy and it could take 10 minutes to get a lift , keycards were needed to access most floors and these would sometimes stop working meaning that you were unable to access the correct floor. Very frustrating ! A couple of times we gave up on the lifts and took the stairs - these were not very salubrious and the doorways at each floor were often blocked with bags of laundry/trays of food. The rooms were clean and bright and showers were good. Towels were very old and thin. The pool was very small and the bar area was very loud and busy every time we went up so we didn't end up using this. Breakfast - food was fine but it was always totally chaotic up there and not enough seats. All in all an OK hotel but definitely feels more like a hostel.

A Novotel close to the beach in Ipanema

Decent hotel, even though everything about it feels somewhat cramped. The hotel is right at the boardwalk, just a flight of stairs leading up to the lobby. The lobby has nice ceiling height, but feels a bit cramped because of the couch & staircase in the middle and the lines which can form in front of the two "main" elevators. A/C also wasn't on (high), but that might have been due to the weather being "terrible" (26°C, rainy) by Rio standards. The staff was friendly, the room was clean, albeit very small. I'm very tall (2.04m/6'8) so I struggled with the height of the ceiling in the hallway and in the to the elevator, as I couldn't stand up straight. Inside the room it was a close call, but the ceiling height in the bathroom was high enough to just about stand up straight. Bed was good, as is always the case in Accor hotels. A/C made constant noises (gurgling), but worked. Overall nothing fancy, it's adequate for 2 nights on a business trip.

Now, I want to start this off by stating we are not snobs or luxury travellers. We have stayed in all types of hotels before, but im not sure I can recall a hotel being as disappointing for its 4* rating and perceived image of brilliance as we built up before arriving here. We arrived and were the only ones at check in, despite a domino's delivery man who instead of reception asking to move, took up the desk where we checked in so we had to effectively shout over him just to check in. Check in took around 15 minutes just to give us a key, we had already paid etc. I have worked in hotels before, it really shouldn't take that long to check in. Got to the room to find our "double superior room with a king bed" had 2 single beds. That's always nice. Oh and the smell, HORRIFIC. I get the city is very humid & sticky, but thats no excuse for the damp smell of this room. Right next to the lift and some very noisy neighbours also made sleeping in this room difficult. Not to mention the bloody pillows. Never known 2 more pathetic pillows. One flat as a pancake, the other ridiculously folded in half so the middle has nothing its just material it's honestly bizarre. Breakfast is edible nice food, just absolutely carnage. Very small area of food with a lot of people trying to use 1 toaster. Just a bit of mayhem every morning. We did manage to get seats but it is luck of the draw. I think we are just very disappointed. This hotel was not cheap, we paid slightly more for the idea of a luxury start to our south America holiday and when we arrived with the check in & quality of the room - we honestly wanted to leave immediately. You fly all day to get here and the room doesn't come with tea /coffee facilities. We wanted a shower but the towels were not clean at all and terrible material. Oh and the lifts are also a nightmare, could be waiting as much as 5 minutes for one to arrive. Nice toilet roll though I must say, very soft. This is being reviewed as 2* because I'm not going to go and say its absolutely awful 1* never ever come here - just manage your expectations possibly better than us. This hotel does not feel like a 4*. It feels like a budget 3*, a bit like a travelodge. You can sleep in it, you feel relatively safe at night, it's just not that best.

The view is amazing, the service very good! Rafael was always attentive and kind. The only problem we had was the appetizer we ordered came cold. We ordered guiozas and they were cold inside. But everything else was amazing! We loved the space, esthetics, design, elegant. The view is gorgeous!
