Very conveniently located hotel. Everything you need from a chain hotel. Staff were lovely. Breakfast was good. We arrived before our check in time after a very long journey from the UK and the hotel got us into a room as soon as they could. Would recommend.

Bed comfortable. But sharing bed not big enough only a double. Bathroom needed vanity in room, as strange having hand basin looking into bedroom. Should have coffee making facilities in a better set up. Good area close to shops, within walking distance.

The Novotel is a good choice for central Christchurch. Next door to the new public library. Walking distance to many attractions and restaurants, the tram, New Regent Street, and public transit. We had a room on the executive floor, which included beverages from the mini bar (soda, beer, and snack food). The rooms are a bit dated but they are comfortable and a good size. Our room looked down on Cathedral Square, and we could see the continuing repairs to the cathedral. Staff were generally pleasant and helpful. We were able to store our bags with no fuss at all while we went down to Kaikoura for a day. We were happy with our stay at the Novotel.

Easy walk to shopping and all attractions

Our 3 night stay here was very enjoyable. Esther, at reception, was very welcoming on our arrival and check-in was easy. All the staff we encountered were friendly and ready to help in any way. We had booked a superior king room and assigned room 912. It faced one side of the city and was a good size for our stay with the 2 seater lounge, desk and chair giving us some space to sit and read/reflect on the day's sightseeing. The room was quiet with a comfortable bed for a good night's rest. Hot water came through quickly and the soft white towels/washers etc were welcome. The bathroom products were of good quality. We found the basin and mirror, being outside the bathroom, was a little different but we quickly got used to the layout. The lighting in the room was adequate with bedside lamps and other lights. The room also had a small fridge, a small wardrobe and a good size TV opposite the bed. We had the buffet breakfast 1 morning and thoroughly enjoyed it. As we had an early morning departure on day 3 and didn't require breakfast, we did not book our stay as bed and breakfast. It seems that with most places, when making bookings, you can only book breakfast for the entire stay - not individual days. It is always a bit cheaper if you book as a package. There is a lot of building work going on around Christchurch at the moment but we definitely recommend this hotel for convenience and a comfortable stay.

Novotel was outstanding in so many ways. Location is wonderful. Very close to many attractions and restaurants. Christchurch is very walkable so it was a joy to leave and return to the hotel. Very clean. Very quiet. Rooms very large and spacious. Remember to use your room key to activate room lights. Breakfast buffet is totally outstanding. We stayed at many hotels on our bus tour. This location was the best. I would strongly recommend this hotel whether traveling via group or not.
