We stayed at this hotel in September 2023 prior to boarding our cruise. We spent three nights. The hotel was clean and in a safe neighbourhood. The staff were friendly and helpful. There were lots of places to eat and enjoy food and wine close by. Walking distance. Even some shopping and markets. The subway was also close and walking distance. It’s worth it to spend the $14euro as the subway can take you to the majority of the main attractions. We used it regularly. We felt safe. Overall i would stay at this hotel again however I do wish it was closer to the central area of the city as we did a lot of walking and travelling around in the subway. The coffee and breakfast were good at the hotel. The rooftop was nice to enjoy in the evening.

Dear Client, Thank you for choosing Mercure Roma Piazza Bologna for your stay before your cruise. We are delighted to hear that you found our hotel clean, safe, and enjoyed the facilities we offer, including our rooftop. It's great to know that you appreciated the proximity of various dining options, markets, and the subway station. We are happy that you felt safe and that our staff contributed positively to your experience. We understand your preference for a more central location, and we appreciate your feedback on this matter. While our hotel is located in a vibrant neighborhood, we will take your comments into consideration for future improvements. We hope to welcome you back on your next visit to Rome. Warm regards, Marco Ministeri General Manager

Good, not great hotel, located conveniently north of the centre of Rome

This is a good hotel reasonably well located for access to various parts of the city, about a five-minute walk from Bologna metro. 3.5 stars. My room on the fourth floor was somewhat quiet. A certain amount of street noise did get through because I needed to keep the window cracked open since the aircon in the hotel did not kick in even when the temperature rose to the early-mid 20s Celsius. The bed was excellent. The bathroom was large and the bidet a welcome touch. The shower was of the kind where you need to climb into the bathtub to shower, and in this case it was a bit cramped . Combination soap and shampoo is provided, but no moisturiser. Breakfast was pretty good. A good spread of the all the usual items. Alternative milks and gluten-free breads are available. One of the ladies who worked in the breakfast room was unfailingly cheerful and polite. You can get coffee made by the bar staff, in addition to from the machines in the buffet area. The negatives: There was zero acknowledgement of Accor status. No welcome drink was offered. Instead, in my room I found a gift of a bottle of water (one bottle for my four-day stay), a tiny jar of sweet pretzel type things, and at check-in I was given a wifi access code. I thought it might give me access to high-speed wifi, but that was not the case. The speeds were just about adequate, same as those of the regular wifi, and dropped below that threshold in parts of the room. As far as I could see, there was just the one plug point to charge devices with, and that wasn't by the bed. The key card was a major pain point, failing four times during my stay, though I made it a point to not keep it next to any magnets or other cards. You'd think we'd be past having to keep going down to reception to have a fresh card issued every day in 2024, but no.

Not a great recommend

The room size was a bit tight but the washroom was good and spacy. The hotel staff was helpful. The breakfast spread was not good for vegetarians with very limited options. The hotel is located very close to metro station/bus stops hence connectivity is not an issue.

Dear Guest, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are glad you found our washrooms spacious and our staff helpful. We apologize for the inconvenience regarding the room size and limited vegetarian options at breakfast. Our hotel's location near the metro station and bus stops aims to provide easy connectivity for our guests. We appreciate your valuable comments. Warm regards. Marco Ministeri General Manager

One of the coldest teams in the hospitality industry. Sorry, but it's true!

My wife and I stopped for 3 days in Rome towards the end of a 15-stop round-the-world (RTW) trip, so we had lots of hotels with which to compare the Mercure. The location, near the Bologna Metro station, is not bad. And the neighbourhood is quaint, with lots of eateries and a few small food marts (Carrefour Express, etc.) nearby. The hotel itself is well maintained and fairly clean, and the breakfast area is your typical Mercure setup - 16 EUR for the fairly basic buffet. (Forget an omelet station!) So that's all positive. But here is what we really didn't like. And I'm not one of those people who will slash a hotel's rating because of a bit of mildew among the bathtub tiles, folks! I'm just writing what really upset us, in comparison with every other hotel on our RTW itinerary. (1) The pillows are truly awful. I know, I know, you can say, "Well, that's a personal thing." But there are great pillows in the hotel industry, okay pillows, and terrible pillows. Just go in eyes wide open: this Mercure has the worst pillows you will ever experience in a 3-star hotel. (2) The room carpets are not clean. It's as simple as that. (3) The wifi was 1/10 attrocious. We couldn't even get the weather to update on our phones the entire time we were there. It was that bad. No exaggeration at all. (4) You just get the impression there is a cheap cheap cheap approach to your stay: one tiny bottle of water for the entire 3 days, stuff like that. (5) The staff: this is what really disappointed me. Yes, Rome is a big tourist city and I don't blame hotel staff for being fatigued with being nice to tourists. But the front desk staff -- and I mean all four we experienced while there -- were downright unfriendly. Here are three practical examples of what I mean: (a) one promised to address the wifi situation; he did nothing about it and didn't follow up. (b) We were pickpocketed over $300 in the Metro (beware!!) and when we told the front desk person about it, in the course of another item, she didn't even blink or offer a single word of empathy. Not a word! I didn't expect her to cry for us, but really, after a traumatizing situation, you'd like your hotel hosts to utter a word of empathy. (c) When we checked out, the front desk clerk didn't even utter a word of "Thanks for your stay" or "Have a nice onward trip" - NOTHING. Overall, the staff colder than cold. One bight spot: the young guy who works at the bar and serves breakfast was one of the NICEST people we interacted with on our entire RTW. He was kind, personable, and did wish us a good journey! This might not reflect everyone's Mercure experience in Rome, but it is a fairly solid description of ours. We would not stay here again, nor would we recommend it to friends. Sorry!

Dear Guest, Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback about your recent stay at the Mercure Roma Piazza Bologna. We appreciate your positive comments regarding our location, cleanliness and breakfast setup. We are truly sorry to hear about the issues you encountered during your stay. We take your feedback seriously and will address the concerns you raised with our team. Regarding the pillows, wifi quality, the carpet in your room and the level of service you received, we apologize for falling short of your expectations. At Mercure, we strive to provide a comfortable and welcoming environment for all our guests. Your comments will be used to improve our services. We take this opportunity to reassure you that the some future WI.FI system upgrade has been planned; moreover, we would like to inform you that among our rooms we also have available some, Privilege categories, providing parquet instead of the carpet. We sincerely apologize for the disappointments you faced and appreciate your insights. Warm regards, Marco Ministeri General Manager
