Lyon is a lovely city. We will be back, but sadly not to this hotel. The good is that with one exception the staff were lovely and helpful, and it was very good of them to speak English. Also, unlike other reviewers, the standard room was quite large enough for two in our opinion, and the space very well designed. The downside was that the reception area and breakfast room were building sites, and the bar serving both functions instead. I am pleased we did not book breakfast as it would not have been a good experience. Sadly, the refurbishment work meant no air con in rooms with sealed windows. There was no indication of any of this on the hotel website. The room was very hot with no fresh air. It was a shame.

Tiny room, slow check in, and not worth breakfast.

I went to a business travel where I had the hotel booked by my company. My experience with Mercure has always been good in all senses. However, this hotel was bad. First of all, it took 30 min to check in. There was only one employee at the reception when we arrived, and it was 7 pm. There was one person checking in and it took forever. Secondly, the room is tiny, literally, tiny. I have feeling that what was supposed to be 1 room, they made 4. There was like half of the window which was impossible to open. Last but not least, the breakfast was really disappointing and not worth 20 euros. There are many coffee places around the hotel where you will be better served.

I chose this hotel because of its location. It's right in the centre of Lyon, within a few minutes from two metro stations (Bellecour and Cordeliers) and 10 or so minutes walk from Vieux Lyon. All the main stores are close by. Perfect for shopping. I arrived early and my room was not available but that did not bother me. The front desk staff were helpful. I booked a single bed but was upgraded and my room was big enough and comfortable. There was however a small problem: a bad smell by the side of the bed almost stopped me from sleeping comfortably on my first night. The following day I spoke to reception and a member of the staff was sent immediately to find out where the bad smell was coming from. My second night was better. The smell was "covered" with what I assume was a room spray, unfortunately it came back on my last night. Had it not been for this, I would have been given this hotel a better review. I did not have breakfast there, so I do not know if it is good or not.

Tiny room and bathroom, but well located and helpful staff. Excellent location for city centre, old city and Gare Lyon - Perrache. Rooms are ordinary, and it appears an extra floor has been dded to the building, meaning some windows are in odd places.

The staff at the Mercure were so helpful. Their kindness with our struggles with French and finding our way around was very welcome. We had a number of rooms and they did their best to make sure we were all comfortable. The free water fountain in the bar area was a great touch. From 4 th floor up you get a view of the Rhone down the street. Each room is quiet and dark for sleeping, a standard room is the usual European small but the privilege rooms were more spacious and included a coffee machine. Reception will order taxis for you and the taxi driver comes in and calls your room number so there was no need to wait outside in the weather. They also stored our bags between return trips - great service. Merci beau coup
