Good overnight to Italy

Tripadvisor 评级 3.0/5

Sue77777 Couples - 经 TripAdvisor 认证的评论

Good overnight stop en route to Italy . Easy to find from the main roads . Plenty of free parking and electric hook ups going in for about three cars The hotel is typical Novotel decor outside and inside Although it needed a bit of TLC , not so sure the interior decor is right for a 4* , it looked like it had been boarded up following damage !!!! The restaurant menu was limiting but adequate and a fair price . We opted for breakfast which was ample, a mixture of the usual cereal and continental meats . There was bacon and scrambled eggs but sadly cold . But it was there. Good choice of hot drinks too The room was fine all be it tired . Comfy bed and a good shower . Nice clean towels . Honestly feel it isn’t a 4* and it is over priced but that’s the world we live in now for travel . Overall it’s the friendly staff that make this hotel .

Dear Sue, thank you for your feedback. We are happy to read that the room, restaurant and our staff was at the height of your expectations. Regarding the interior decor, it is a bias. It makes the restaurant and lobby more modern and warm than before. More than half of our rooms are under renovation, we hope that the new decoration will be to your taste. Best regards,

Not sure what people expect for their money these days but overall we had a good stay. We paid last minute €103 euros for 2 adults and 2 children with access to a swimming pool. Pros *Good quiet location (we used as a stopover to Switzerland) *Okay swimming pool for the kids to take a quick dip. Sunloungers available. *Games such as ping pong, large connect 4, footballs, badminton, boules etc and a nice green area next to the pool to play. We had great fun with the kids. *Toddler corner with large lego bricks, books and games near the bar area (great for watching the kids while enjoying a drink) *nice breakfast - (but not sure it’s worth the €15 price tag). Xx an air in or outdoors *nice outdoor seating in garden area *ice cold water dispenser to fill water bottles Cons *No air con. We stayed when it was 30degrees with only 1 small fan. *Could only open window a little as we were on ground floor with small children. Needless to say we didn’t sleep well. *Food in main restaurant wasn’t great and around €18/€23 per person. Limited menu for dinner - steak tartare, burger, steak, sausage & mash, swordfish, a salad. I had the burger and my partner had the steak. My burger was tasteless. Didn’t rate the steak - so they not season their food here? *kids menu is €13 and consists of a main and dessert. Again, not great quality for the price. Moral of the story here - try and eat before you arrive or check out the local Italian restaurants nearby. *drinks are EXPENSIVE! €9/10 a pint and €4.5 for a Coca Cola! Rooms: *are designed in a ‘retro’ style but I must say our room was really clean, 8” *no chipped furniture, no stains on carpets or walls etc. *Fluffy towels and clean bedding *kettle and some hot beverages available in room but no tea. *Bathroom looked new (although in a dated style) so no complaints here really. *Bed was comfy enough for 1 night. Check in is very Informal, it’s a laptop at a desk in the foyer - this seems to bother some people?! All in all the main thing that let it down for me was the main meal, not good quality and overpriced. It’s too hot during summer months so take an extra fan or your own air con unit.

Thank you to taking time to share your stay with you. I'll share your review with my team to work and progress about our quality. We'll start your renovations in few month for all rooms and the machinery of fresh air. She sould be more powerful. We hope to welcome you for a next stay in our area. I wish you a nice day. Mathieu M.

Just okay really

The location of this hotel is good for driving further south in France towards Switzerland- the border is only 35 km away. The staff are a mixed bunch, some friendly, others less so (reception was the latter). The restaurant was fine, if a little overpriced, and breakfast was varied enough. The bed was comfortable, but the big issue in the rooms is the lack of air conditioning. There is a dial in the room but a notice states it is centrally controlled ie not on at all. There is a fan in the room, but that just moves hot air around. I would probably not stay again as there seem to be numerous options in the nearby area.

Very poor stay

In the room 30 degrees. Have no aircon just a small fan. In the restaurant no menu just a buffet (can not take one platter, have to take the whole buffet). I use to stay in Novotel but this one is the worst of all. Don’t go there

In disbelief that this is a Novotel

We were disappointed from the second we drove up to this dilapidated hotel with its retro (not at all in a good way) exterior and a huge heap of rubbish (looking like a bonfire in-waiting) in the carpark. We were sure, however, that it would be the usual Novotel experience inside... But were sadly mistaken. Check-in is a laptop on a table near the door and was a relatively lengthy process. The ground floor of this two-storey building is a hot, fly/mosquito/wasp-filled, chaotic mess of uncomfortable furniture, kids' sports equipment and chipboard walls, which is probably an attempt at trendiness but comes off a construction-in-progress. Heavy suitcases have to be lugged up the stairs as there is no lift. The rooms are clean but extremely dated with paint chipped off just about every possible wood surface, a lamp that flashed on and off (making an ominous buzzing noise when off), a fridge with the usual Novotel "welcome to your room and enjoy this complimentary water"-sticker on it but was empty and non-functioning, a rather lumpy bed, "centrally-controlled" air-conditioning (read: we get to say how hot you'll be tonight in the 35°C heat), plus a toilet that was so low you have to practically just drop and hope for the best. The hotel is ideally set up for families, with an outdoor pool and free-to-use badminton sets, footballs, etc. This does come with a certain noise element, however. The rooms are poorly insulated against noise and we were woken at 6:45 by a cacophony that made us think the hotel was being demolished around our room. Some staff speak languages other than French but others do not and we had a hard time as a multilingual but non-French-speaking family ordering dinner from the really lovely, friendly young chap in the restaurant. Although we had a reservation in the hotel's restaurant, not one member of staff acknowledged our presence for a good 20 minutes after we took our seats. The restaurant is very casual with few tables suitable for dining- most are low with low, loungey chairs or high with stools. There is one dingey back room with three "proper" tables but it was very hot, full of flies and decorated, weirdly, with a load of dusty cameras and yet more MDF. Staff on the whole, aside from that one young man, were inattentive, unfriendly bordering on rude. Twice during our stay, the keycard failed to work in the door: the first time, we had to wait 10 minutes at the end of the check-in queue to have it reactivated and the second time we had to actively hunt down staff, since "reception" (i.e. the table with a laptop) was unmanned. When we did eventually find someone, not a word apology was forthcoming. The card was simply reactivated and handed back in glum silence. The same happened when we were charged almost forty euro to two drinks: our challenging the bill was met with sullen indifference by the young waitress. The nerve of this virtual youth hostel to call itself a four-star hotel is bewildering. The experience has left me questioning Novotel's standards and wondering if I maybe just dreamed it all. Will never book this place again.
