Don't operate 24 hour room service

I called the room service to eat something. The operator says room service is closed however menu says they operate 24 hours. Even in a 4 star business hotel room service operate 24 hours. I ended up starving in the night. Very disappointing.

The Fairmont hotel is one of my favorites hotels in Beijing. The 85 square meters executive suite which I usually stay in, are a great value for money and very comfortable. The bed is really comfortable, the bathroom totally amazing, and the walk in wardrobe top notch. There is even a separate dedicated space for make up. In the living area, the dark wood desk is a pleasure to work on, and the toilets in the reception room of the suites are great for guests when having a meeting. The gold executive lounge is perfect for work and meetings as well as for breakfast. Discretion and high quality service is all what this hotel is about. The room downstairs for breakfast is noisy and too small. This is why I always take my breakfast in the gold lounge. I regret that they don’t use anymore “Le Labo” shampoo and shower gel, which was great. The hotel rooms are a little old but extremely well equipped with air purifier, massage chairs, bath salts, iron and so on. Reception desk is helpful. Location very central and convenient. The gym is amazing, the swimming pool is but ageing but decent. Easy to get a cab. Food at the Western restaurant is good without being exceptional. The chicken and mushroom soup (room service) is my favorite. Room service staff doesn’t speak well english which led to some misunderstanding sometimes.

Awesome stay

They bumped us up to a suite! The room was way bigger than what we expected. It wasn't just the size that made it great, though. The floor had this heating thing going on, which was pretty awesome, especially in the mornings. They even had a massage chair in the room. After walking around the city all day, chilling in that chair felt like a real treat. The people working at the hotel were super nice too. They were always around, ready to help out with whatever we needed. And the location? Spot on! We were right in the middle of everything. It made getting around so much easier and let us squeeze in a lot more fun stuff without wasting time traveling back and forth. So, yeah, the upgrade to the suite totally made our stay. The cozy room, the warm floor, the relaxing chair, the friendly staff, and being right in the heart of the city—it all came together perfectly. Made the whole trip extra special.

Service Personnel lacked Substance

The Fairmont Beijing is a beautiful hotel that exudes an east-meets-west theme. Rooms are spacious and tastefully decorated although they are starting to look tired with wooden fixtures, like the desk, appearing quite worn. While the overall experience of the facility felt consistent with other Fairmont properties, service, particularly in the dining room was very inconsistent. On arriving at the buffet, for example, the woman on duty seemed to lack any type of EQ as she moved abruptly in front of me like a security guard and then yelled “room number”. Some of the food in the breakfast buffet appeared to sit too long with some items like the cheese plate being dry and hard. Details like replacing depleted dinner plates, not refilling sugar beside the coffee machine, providing coffee spoons, to not having a bread knife with which to cut into the large baguettes that were on display were annoying. Used plates often piled up on tables despite a manager who seemed to float around the room doing nothing while a sea of his personnel failed to take any initiative to look out for the needs of their patrons unless they were told to. While the hotel gives the appearance of having many staff at your beck and call, most of them were nothing more than wall flowers; unable to address even small requests or at best, just an annoyance. For example, our team members were frequently badgered by a woman in the lobby who stared at us the whole time, almost eves dropping. While she did frequently ask us how our stay was, when we mentioned that, for example, our room keys frequently became deactivated, she seemed totally disinterested in continuing the conversation or pursuing a resolution with front desk staff. Her whole role seemed like a shallow facade; to simply ask how are stay was going. On check out, when I went to retrieve my checked luggage, the attendant brought out someone else’s bags and, getting frustrated as our taxi was waiting, I eventually had to go behind the desk to retrieve my bags myself, all of which did have tags that matched the receipt-tags I had been given. Rather than having a lot of staff who serve no authentic purpose, HR should look to hiring quality staff who can multi-task, are intuitive and can provide true value-added service.
