I booked 2 x suits and upon arrival was told no suits available, do were put in 2 x deluxe doubles, one of which was very small. Staff were helpful all things considered. We arrived back from an event at 10.50pm to be told the bar closed at 11pm, even to residents. We would have spent an hour or two at the bar chatting to the rest of our party but could only fit one in.

Gioyo Solo travel - TripAdvisor review

Cheap and good value, good location and friendly staff. Sounds good? I guess it is. But this is supposed to be a Mercure and it's not to the standard of the brand. The double room looked nothing like the picture on the booking site. View of not much at the back of the building. Dated bathroom, good shower and bath. No electric socket next to the bed table. Wonky TV leaning to one side which I had to support with a folded towel. Poor TV software and channel selection. Old carpets with folds in them. Creaky floorboards. Creaky headboard. Poor finishing. Breakfast is ok, lacks more healthy options, more yoghurt, more prepared fruit, nuts, seeds, brown bread. The restaurant is ok, it's more of a bar with a menu. Staff is friendly and helpful, felt a bit thin on the ground.

Nice room and warm, especially after having to book out of Leonardos Union Sq because of a feeezing room. Decent breakfast and friendly staff. Nice position arounf 5 minutes walk from railway station.

Has character but is very dated

Everyone who works there is really friendly! Unfortunately, the lifts were out, and we were on the 3rd floor (but at least we weren't on the 5th!!). Our key stopped working twice, which made for a LONG trek up and down the stairs. It's a really beautiful old hotel in a prime spot, but it needs some updates. The carpet is threadbare in places (and the floor feels a little iffy), the tiles are cracked in the adorable bathroom, and the room smelled a little funky, but I guess we got used to it eventually. We had a fine stay, but I'm not sure I'd stay there again.

The hotel in the heart of the loop but the facilities are deteriorating so it need a major restoration. The lift on top didn’t work.
