Loved it!

We stayed in a stunning suite overlooking the water. This hotel is an oasis in the middle of a National Geographic location. We loved the hospitality and the cocktails were excellent. Our guide picked us up from the hotel's dock to take us on on incredible tours and then we could come home to this gorgeous hotel. Perfect! This has to be the nicest place in Inle Lake.

LUXURY ON A BEAUTIFUL LAKE

KiwiExplorer Couples - TripAdvisor review

We stayed for 5 nights in an over water Opera Suite in January as part of a Luxury Escapes package. The drive from Heho Airport to the hotel is a long drive, ours was at night but it is pretty as you descend the steep mountainous pass toward the lake seeing all the lights shimmering around Inle Lake. The Sofitel is visually spectacular as soon as you enter the property and that impression remains with us even now. Our room was the last Opera suite at the end of the pathway, the very furtherest room from reception; to us this was a bonus as we were able to get some exercise walking to and from the room (when it rained we just called for the buggy service) and we also had more privacy with our room being in a single building with just a room below and a duplex building on one side only. These Opera suites are on the top floor of free standing buildings. Some are duplex buildings and some are single buildings as ours was. The suite was spectacular, ranking amongst the most impressive rooms we have stayed in. Highly featured, modern and tasteful and exceptionally comfortable. Take a look at my attached photos if you have time. The entire property was spotless and meticulously maintained. Our room was serviced well and we didn’t have any complaints about the maid service or room service. There are 2 restaurants on the property and many bars. The upmarket restaurant is near the other end of the line of Opera suite buildings overlooking the Lake. The food and service are excellent, however the menu has a limited choice. We dined here twice and probably would have had difficulty choosing from the menu another time. So, the rest of the meals were had in the main restaurant in the reception building. We ordered from a menu once and the meal was OK but the buffets here were excellent especially the Burmese local buffet. We either ordered a sandwich from room service for lunch or ordered from the menu for lunch in the main restaurant and all breakfasts were eaten in the main restaurant. Breakfast was also very good with a large selection of food. There are two swimming pools, one outside the main restaurant that families seem to frequent and another near the jetty overlooking the water. This was an infinity edge pool and whilst nice, it was well patronised as were the nearby deck chairs so we didn’t swim. We preferred the view to be had from the suite balcony. We did a grasshopper tours cycling and longboat/kayak trip from the hotel arranged online with the tour company and it was a great way to spend the day. On completion of the tour we were delivered back to the jetty at the Sofitel. Id be surprised if there was a more luxurious property near Inle Lake and I’d thoroughly recommend the Sofitel for a relaxing and comfortable stay in a location with a fabulous view. A footnote would be that the rooms surrounding small lakes close to each other at the back of the property near reception didn’t have the same appeal as the waterfront rooms.

This hotel is amazing! They allowed us to check in early and upon asking offered us a free upgrade. The room is breathtaking; amazingly spacious bathroom with even better views (which isn’t shown in pictures enough). I thoroughly recommend getting an opera suite if it is in your budget. The room itself has everything you need; a coffee machine, 2 wardrobes, comfy bed with net, bluetooth speakers (ask staff to connect) and a sitting area. They offer a turn down service at night where they even left a sachet of relaxing tea on our bed. The balcony was extremely spacious with views of the lake and heart shaped island they have made. You can see the sunset from the balcony and hear the boats and birds..so relaxing! ALL staff were amazing throughout our whole stay. They really made the visit and are a credit to the country and the hotel! The manager personally spoke to us a number of times and nothing was too much trouble. He offered a very late check out at no extra cost and sorted out some small issues promptly. The staff on reception were amazing and ensured we had everything we wanted. The restaurant staff were also great. A special thanks to Bo Ma who looked after us and always had a smile! The hotel organized taxis to the nearby town, offered free bike rental and helped us to book boat trips. The spa was also great and good value. The food was good and quite good value for a hotel like this, especially if you stick to traditional Myanmar food. There are a couple of small shops on the same road as the hotel if you want to buy some drinks and snacks at a cheaper price. I thoroughly recommend this hotel for a relaxing retreat! We stayed 2 nights and it was the perfect treat. Thank you to all staff!

Lovely stay on the lake

DavidP2012 Families - TripAdvisor review

This resort is fairly new and I had heard it was beautiful and we were not disappointed. The rooms on the lake are stunning to wake up to and the entire grounds of the resort are immaculate. We stayed on the lake rooms and one wakes up to see the early morning fishing boats, lovely breakfast to start the day and a gorgeous spot to end the day on the porch watching the sunset. Our only disappointment was that we didn't have more time to relax at the resort as we were out exploring most of the time. We were there in December so we didn't have a chance to enjoy the pool and it does cool off quite a bit when the sun goes down, but the fire on the porch to warm up to is lovely also. The only knock if it is one is that the food options are a little limited for dinner but one could go into town for lunch or dinners if the day is not crammed with activities. If we were to return, we would very enthusiastically stay here again.
