A great place for a relaxing stay

Just spent a very pleasant overnight stay at Walton Hall hotel via a Groupon deal. We were slightly worried about some of the reviews but needn’t have worried because it has been a lovely stay and exceptional value. We stayed in a privilege room in the modern part of the hotel and we could not fault it. The staff have been brilliant and very helpful. Special shout out to reception and the restaurant staff. The pool was relaxing, quiet and warm. The steam room and sauna nice and clean. The only thing that we would mention would be that the cleanliness of the gym needs to be improved. The grounds of the old hall ante stunning and make for a pleasant stroll. Overall though, the stay was very enjoyable and we will definitely visit again. Thank you Mercure Walton Hall.

Absolute let down- avoid!

A poor and disappointing experience!! My partner booked a surprise trip away with a ‘privilege room’ as a special treat. However upon check in, other rooms in our corridor had a ‘privilege’ badge next to their door and ours did not. I queried this and was told all rooms are the same anyway, for the extra you have paid, you can have a bottle of water, a can of fizzy drink and a dressing gown…. Really?! That’s the extra? Yet there is not even a single cushion on our bed and the photo online does not match our room. I also ran a bath in the evening, but the water coming through the main taps filled the bath with yellow/brown water- my partner straight away told me to get rid of the water as I’ll end up getting ill! The whole room allocation was not very ‘privileged’ at all! We thought we would then try the spa the next day- don’t bother. I have seen leisure centres with better facilities. There is a pool, a tiny sauna and steam room. When we reached the spa, the ladies on reception were very unwelcoming and told my partner that the men’s changing rooms were out of use. He could therefore use a spare hotel room or get changed in the disabled toilet. Within the ladies changing rooms, one out of two cubicles was out of order and the showers were nothing more than a cold drizzle. Upon leaving the hotel, we also realised my partner had left his coat. We rang the hotel and agreed to arrange a courier for collection if we emailed the label over. We have now paid for two courier collections and each time the courier arrives, the parcel has not been ready for collection. When ringing reception on numerous occasions, we have been met with a variety of responses: they either know nothing about this, you get passed over to a colleague or they just do not even bother to return your call, despite leaving your number… we are still waiting for our phone call to be returned now. We have now spent over £20 on courier collections and still do not have the coat back… I am starting to wonder if they even have our coat anymore?! Please be wary of booking with this hotel. A real shame when it is in such lovely grounds and holds so much promise. An utter disappointment!

Good, yet can do better

On the whole it was a good overnight stay with stunning surroundings and excellent food in the evening. There is some small room for improvement especially with the breakfast - instead of self service I would much prefer freshly prepped breakfast and a choice with the egg…scrambled is ok, yet would have been nice to have a choice. Also no mushrooms on a breakfast menu?….whats with that. Also there is scope for a revamp with non-alcoholic beers too as there is plenty out there yet Becks Blue was the only choice in the hotel plus the price was way too expensive. The corridor air freshener spray was a bit overpowering too….almost as if the hotel was trying to hide a bad smell. Also it wasn’t pointed out to us at reception or beforehand that we needed to hire the spa robes and slippers…..it would have been nice to have been informed before we cane so we could either decide to hire or bring our own.

Lovely Hotel.

We stayed here to have a night away as a couple. Approaching the hotel was an experience itself. Stratford is a beautiful place anyway, but this long drive way surrounded by beautiful country got us even more excited about our stay. The grounds were spectacular, well kept and loved gardens as well as lovely architectural buildings. The hotel was very spacious and clean with amazing staff. The staff in all departments was excellent, however the Reception team made it outstanding. Unfortunately our first room had no running hot water in the shower, so this meant leaving our room to go to reception and asking for a room change. Which they did without question and with lots of sympathy. Nothing was too much trouble. One staff member called Lena (Who was fairly new to the team) went above and beyond for us. And later in the evening she found us in the bar around and approached us to make sure our new room was better for us, a true credit to the team. All staff members were brilliant, the restaurant that evening was very busy but the staff did a fantastic job. However, the bar prices let down this hotel massively. I will display a picture of the bar menu so it will be better to understand. To have a double shot of a spirit was over double the price of a single! For example, if you wanted a double rum and coke, it would be cheaper to ask for two single shots of rum and a coke… It was way too expensive. The breakfast was nice with a hot and cold selection of food… however was not worth £16 (per person). The cold meat selection felt like it was left over packet ham you buy at a supermarket. The spa was a little out dated, the showers were not powerful enough and just trickled down your back. We did stay during the Easter break, and the children’s swim session was running from check in until 7pm…so it got very busy for a long time and wasn’t very relaxing like a spa should be. Overall, the staff made our experience, some rooms could do with a bit of TLC/ upgrade. But we would stay again.
