Front desk/concierge disappointing but nice property

It’s a beautiful property but leaves a whole lot to be desired. We tried to contact the concierge a week or so before our stay to make reservations, but repeated inquires were ignored. Once we arrived we were informed that unfortunately all of the activities and restaurants we wanted to do/visit were booked for the entirety of our stay. The phone in our room did not work and despite bringing it up with the front desk 4 times it was never addressed, leaving me to call for room service or taxis, etc from the phone in the hallway. I heard several other guests complaining that when they brought an issue to the attention of the front desk, they said all the right things but zero follow up action was taken. I imagine it is worse than usual because it is spring break time but if it’s busy and you want chairs by the pool, be prepared to reserve your spot by around 7:30am. We found the restaurant food selections to be a bit limited and some just not very good, especially for the price. On the plus side, The grounds are lovely and well kept, it is nice to have the bikes available to ride around the property, the water filling stations are convenient, they have taken great care to keep the beach area clear of the sea weed that is messing up the beaches all over the Caribbean, and kayaks and stand up paddle boards were nice to have. The housekeeping staff were wonderful, as were the in room dining staff. Overall, I expected more from this hotel, and feel like there are other similar resorts nearby where we have had much better experiences.

Service was far below expected levels for this type of resort.

Spa experience and Airport transportation arranged though the resort were both good although extremely expensive. The room cleanliness on arrival was substandard, and the dining experience was absolutely terrible at every level. Reservations were substantially unavailable, and staff was unhelpful. Food was of average to poor quality at best, and was overpriced at every venue. Host staff was poorly trained and could not communicate with other venues in order to accomodate guests even though the resort was far from capacity. The property is beautiful, but completely inferior compared to our visit to the same property only 5 years ago.

My wife and I have traveled to Playa del Carmen over the last 10 years and stayed at several resorts, Fairmont, Viceroy, Belmond Maroma, Rosewood. The reviews have been very helpful to us. On our last trip we went to the Fairmont Myakoba and stayed for 2 weeks. We have been there 4 times before. On this last trip I had some dietary restrictions and was concerned that in such a large resort, customized care wiould be difficult to find. We can only say that Fairmont Myakoba far exceeded our expectations. We have a travel agent who contacted them and they referred us to the "Royal Service Dept". I received an email back from the Executive chef, Daniel Noriega who assured us in advance that there would be no problem in meeting our needs. On the day after we arrived , The general food Manager, Rocky Gonzales showed up at lunch, introduced himself and had a coversation with us. At the end he said he could assure us that every restaurant , and there are many on the property, would be aware of our dietary restrictions. Amazingly enough this turned out to be true. At every restaurant we ate at, the chef would come out and talk to us. If we said only olive oil and wild caught fish , they would make it. Most notably, the chef at Brisas( also the same chef for Gaia) , his name is Eden was remarkable. Not only did he prepare, GF, DF, sugar free, olive oil only, he created dishes demonstrating amazing culinary skills. Antonio, a chef who handles the lunches on the beach was also accommodating. Lastly, the wait staff all over was fantastic. I'll start by mentioning the manager of Brisas, Alejandra. She greeted us at every meal and made sure the kitchen was aware of our restrictions. And by the way, we were not the only guests with concerns. In addition, we need to include the wait staff , Omar in Brisas, Leo in Gaia, Rodrigo, Leslie the manager at Tauro. and Marie in Cafe Maya for morning coffees and exceptional friendly service, remembering my wife's name and her usual order! Once again, special thanks to Daniel Noriega, Rocky and Alejandra for helping to relieve our concerns and make our stay at Fairmont Myakoba memorable. We will return!

Fairmont Mayakoba is my favourite Hotel in all of Mexico From the wonderful smiles, greetings and special surprise at the Valet from Irving, Esteph, Mario and Gerson they made my guest and I feel so welcomed like a 2nd home. The staff always make my stay so special Many thanks for going the extra mile always You had me in tears of joy Gracias Rachelle

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The room was excellent, the beds were very comfortable, the beach was perfect, the food was delicious and the service was exceptional. During our stay my wife fell as a result of missing a step. Jorge (lifeguard/medic) attended to her wounds and even stopped by our room during the early evening to check on her. Thanks to his excellent care and compassion along with the excellent staff Fairmont Mayakoba will forever be a very special place to us.
