Cancelled our booking in favour of a cycling team!

I'm still fuming that they had the audacity to cancel our booking in favour of a cycling team. No super apologetic offers for the inconvenience just cancelled in favour of another more worthy customer. The real joke is that the cancellation was months after we made it to see the tour de france! I'll never come back.

Romantic and comfortable hotel in the midst of a walled, medieval city.

This is an interesting hotel right in the middle of the walled city of Carcassone. You arrive at its dedicated parking lot outside the walls of the city. Then a driver (very nice guy named Roman) takes you and your luggage up into the city in a private, electric car. The hotel is quirky. To reach our suite you had to,go up to the second floor,on an elevator, then cross over to a second building, then down two flights of stairs and down a hall to the room. However, there also is a “secret” door to the street from the hallway and you can then just walk over to the first building. Once you get used to the quirks it is easy to get to a from the room without going up and down stairs(Unless someone locks the door so you cannot get back inside). The suite was large, bright and airy with French doors onto a private patio and windows which opened easily. The staff was helpful with a concierge who mapped out a nice side trip to the eighth century abbey at St. Hilaire and told us how to get to,the pedestrian bridge in the lower city with spectacular views of the walled city above. The breakfast buffet was good with eggs cooked to order. The staff was very nice and decorated our room for our anniversary. The walled City of Carcassone is unique and beautiful and the Hotel de la Cite provided a romantic and comfortable way to enjoy it.

No, you can t be a spa hotel but not have spa facilities available. After a day of driving we had high hopes and we spent good money, only to be told that the spa is fully booked, we stayed one night and we called in the morning to book the spa (weird a spa hotel needs to have spa bookings) but there was no good will towards us, which one does not expect from a 5 star hotel. Other positive aspects were shadowed by this.

Beautiful hotel, perfect location and almost fairy tale atmosphere. Rooms are clean and large, beds comfortable and extra pillows available. Rooms are basically equipped, but have everything to suit basic needs. Our television worked intermittently and there was no alarm clock. Safe and fridge available with excellent towels, robes etc Restaurant is stunning!! 10 courses with the main menu…beautiful food. Extremely historic building with a few nighttime noises, but a fantastic stay! Highly recommended

Magical Hotel, a Must-Stay in Carcassonne

First time in Carcassonne, this hotel was just amazing. We splurged on a room with a terrace, which was totally magical. This hotel is located inside the ancient fortified city, so you're staying basically inside a fortified castle. You can see from the pictures. We had a glass of wine on our terrace every night, watching the sunset over the countryside with castle towers all around us. It was crazy beautiful. Staff was excellent. You can park your car outside the city walls, and they will take your luggage up to the hotel. Climate control was very good. Location of the hotel couldn't be better. Breakfast was great. Common areas in the hotel are beautiful. All in all, this hotel was like a 10 out of 10, and I'd go back to Carcassonne just to stay here again. It was that memorable a stay.
