Im Viadukt

Zurich's creative shopping quarter

A paradise for gourmands, fashionistas and culture aficionados.

Today, this railway viaduct is an urban meeting place for everyone, big or small. The viaduct arches, with their colorful mix of studios, galleries and restaurants, are perfect for strolling, having a good time, shopping and eating.

Markthalle: The Beating Heart of the Shopping Street

The long shopping street, over 547 yards (500 meters) in length, leads to the Markthalle (market hall) - the beating heart of the street. Here, farmers, bakers and butchers offer fresh, first-rate produce from near and far.
The delightful smell of freshly baked bread comes from the St. Jakob Beck bakery, while the Berg und Tal store, which values sustainability, entices visitors with its wide variety of carefully selected produce, such as walnut cakes and honey.
The cheese store “Tritt Käse” has a specially selected range of cheeses that is sure to delight all cheese fans. Gourmands will love the hard and soft cheeses and the dairy products from the Loire Valley, Piedmont and from the farm on the outskirts of the city.
The Restaurant Markthalle serves delicious set menus that are prepared using seasonal products. The plats du jour are prepared fresh daily and vary depending on the selection available at the market on a given day.
For an even more relaxed experience - courtesy of the Südhang wine merchant - you can enjoy a drink on the terrace on mild summer evenings, watching life go by in the lively quarter. The welcoming wine merchant purchases its wines from small artisan vintners who also work in the Im Viadukt quarter.

Work, shop, chillax or sweat?

Digital nomads will love working in the co-working space in the Impact Hub, which also serves as the venue for several exciting workshops and events. Those who have not come to Zurich to work can browse the countless trendy stores.
Iconic labels such as Nudie Jeans and erfolg, as well as the Kitchener+ and Caritas Secondhand stores, will inspire fashionistas. What's more, the many home furnishing stores offer modern design and decorative vintage items for any style.
The best place to enjoy the sun is in the lush Josefwiese park. Here, children splash cheerily through fountains or play on the climbing frames, while people play pétanque, ping-pong and soccer, yogis diligently practice the downward-facing dog pose and connoisseurs enjoy an “Apéröli” aperitif at the kiosk.
The Club El Social offers daily Argentine tango courses, bringing a new momentum to the Im Viadukt quarter. The intense boot camp class at the urban Balboa Gym will be perfect for those who enjoy a more full-on workout.

Spectacular views within the urban jungle

Just around the corner, you can find Frau Gerolds Garten: a hotspot featuring several small stores, art, open-air bars and a private kitchen garden. A diverse program of events offers a lot of variety. On the sun terrace, city kids can enjoy breathtaking views of the railway tracks and the mountains, as well as spectacular sunsets. In winter, enjoy a cozy fondue in our charming wooden parlor, complete with crackling log burner for a cozy feel. But no matter what time of year it is, the atmosphere here is incomparable.

Don't miss the Friday Tower: 17 cargo containers placed alongside and on top of each other. This unique store is absolutely worth a visit as it sells a product that is unique to Zurich: colorful bags and accessories made from old truck tarpaulins and other used materials taken from the streets. Everything is finished by hand and made with used seatbelts for items that are both unique and robust.

The ibis and Novotel Zurich City West hotels are just a stone's throw away from the viaduct arches and from Frau Gerolds Garten.
