What to Look Out For at the NEC Birmingham

Whether you’re visiting the NEC for a tradeshow, business conference, or catching a live events this year, we’ve got all you need to know about visiting the venue.

Situated in the town of Solihull, just northeast of Birmingham, the National Exhibition Centre is not only one of the West Midland’s best-known exhibition spaces, but the largest of its kind in the UK and the seventh largest in all of Europe. Since the Queen officially opened the venue in 1976, the NEC has increased in size over the years and now features an impressive 19 interconnected exhibition halls, 34 conference suites, and outdoor spaces that host over six million guests and hundreds of varied events every year.

Key things to know before your visit the NEC Birmingham


  • The NEC is just 8.4 miles from Birmingham city centre and conveniently adjacent to both Birmingham International Railway Station and Birmingham Airport, should you be visiting from further afield
  • With over 16,500 car parking spaces available, you won’t have trouble finding a spot! 
  • Tickets vary in price per event and can be found under ‘ticket information’ on each event page

What’s on at the NEC?

The NEC hosts a huge range of industry trade shows and international business events throughout its calendar, with everything from automotive shows, manufacturing exhibitions, education conferences and healthcare events. 

Alongside corporate events, the venue hosts a variety of home and garden exhibitions for those green fingered among us, as well as retail and fashion fairs, wedding shows, and other events for a whole number of popular hobbies and interests.

While the NEC has come a long way since holding its first International Spring Fair 40 years ago, the very same retail trade show is still one of the venue’s biggest annual events. 

Some of the NEC’s other upcoming highlights include the Cycle Show for those keen on all things bike-related, the British Drift Championship, and several events and live demos from the nation’s favourite TV shows, including BBC Good Food Show Summer and BBC Gardener’s World Live.

Alongside its own exhibition spaces within the venue, the NEC grounds are also home to the spectacular Resorts World Arena, which boasts a huge range of live music concerts, comedy shows and sporting events to experience throughout the year.
