This season, join one of Mexico's newest traditions and celebrate "Maratón Guadalupe-Reyes."

Mexico’s warm and inviting personalities make it easy for people to get together at every possible chance. The Christmas season is no exception, where there are so many festivities occurring that there is even a period of days in which people celebrate non-stop. This period has 8 main festivities and is commonly known as, “Maratón Guadalupe-Reyes” (Guadalupe-Reyes Marathon). The name was formerly used by the police to name the security operations for the season and alludes to the first and last festivities of the season; December 12th (Day of the Virgin of Guadalupe) to January 6th (Day of the Three Wise Men or "Tres Reyes Magos"). But the name began to be used informally among young people in the 1990s as a common way to refer to a drinking spree for that period of time.If you think you have what it takes to do the Guadalupe-Reyes Marathon, then let's start the warm up; here are 6 different cities that will guarantee you some enjoyable evenings:

Guadalajara

Guadalajara is a beautiful cosmopolitan city located in the State of Jalisco. It combines traditions with the Mexican modern culture. This place is also known as the home of mariachi music, which you will be able to find in almost any part of the city and which might give you a more traditional type of celebration. In general, Guadalajara’s nightlife is worthy of any big city in the world; visit Avenida Chapultepec to find a long strip of lively bars and great options to eat. Whilst there, you’ll be able to find a very young friendly atmosphere, as it is very close to the University of Guadalajara.
Mexico City nightlife

Mexico City

As the world’s 12th most populated city and one of the most important cities in America, it doesn’t come as a surprise that the biggest celebrations for the season occur here. There are several areas that are better known for their night life, including Condesa, which is one of Mexico’s oldest neighbourhoods and now commonly known as the party area of the city. Whilst there, make sure you visit Avenida Tamaulipas where you will be able to find a wide variety of bars, restaurants and clubs. Another important area you need to visit for the marathon is Polanco, known as the trendy area of the city, which is also a very safe place to be out at a club until 4am. Polanco has a small area saturated in great restaurants and bars too, known as Polanquito (Little Polanco), which offers a more relaxed environment that is perfect to start earlier in the evening or if you prefer a slower pace.
Puerto Vallarta nightlife

Puerto Vallarta

Puerto Vallarta is the second most important economy in the State of Jalisco. The first locals date from 300 B.C, but it was Hollywood that discovered the little town in the 1960's. From then on, it has grown to be one of the most visited and exclusive Mexican beach destinations, being very popular with Americans and Canadians. As with any tourist destination, Puerto Vallarta has hundreds of places to offer for a day or a night drink. El Malecón is the centre of Vallarta’s nightlife and the place to be when looking for fun; this is where you will be able to find an array of restaurants as well as the best bars in town, usually also offering live music. And if you’re feeling like heading to one of the biggest nightclubs afterwards, you’ll find these situated on the main road between the centre and Marina Vallarta.
