Hotels Near Sefton Park

Sefton Park is one of Liverpool’s best-kept green spaces and is the ideal place to attend events or simply explore amongst thriving wildlife, green woodland, and exotic plants.

If you’re planning a visit to Liverpool, be sure to visit Sefton whatever the weather for a peaceful few hours or a fun-filled day. The 200-acre park is designed to seem like a natural landscape, rather than the humanmade green-space it is. Expect flower fields, woodlands, and even a lake! Let’s explore some of the best things to see and do in Liverpool’s Sefton Park, including the jewel in the crown, the beautiful Victorian Palm House.

What to see and do in Sefton Park

Explore the Palm House
Start your visit to Sefton Park by heading to the Palm House. This dome-shaped Victorian structure opened in 1896 to house a collection of the world’s most exotic plants. A World War Two bombing raid destroyed much of the design. But the building was refurbished in the 1950s and then again in the early 2000s at the cost of £3.5 million!
Make your way to the outside corners of the Palm House, and you’ll bump into some familiar faces in the form of eight statues of iconic historical figures. Look for Christopher Columbus, Captain James Cook, Gerardus Mercator, and Charles Darwin, amongst others, all designed by French sculptor Léon-Joseph Chavalliaud.
Attend a Summer Concert
After the springtime daffodil explosion, summer rolls into action – the perfect time to plan your visit to Sefton Park. Especially with many seasonal concerts taking place.
Choose from a range of contemporary and pop music events, whether that’s the annual Liverpool International Music Festival or local names taking centre stage. The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra use Sefton Park for their summer concerts. Not to mention Africa Oyé, an annual celebration of African music which is always vibrant and welcoming.
Keep an eye on what’s on and book early to guarantee a weekend you won’t forget.
Work Up a Sweat
Whatever way you keep your body and mind fit and well, you’ll find something for you in Sefton Park, with jam-packed events held all-year-round across the park’s grounds.
The Palm House, the park’s centrepiece, hosts Wellness Wednesday Yoga every Wednesday morning. Meanwhile, regular salsa dances for something a little more upbeat.
Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life challenges entrants to run or walk 5 kilometres around the park, raising money for a fantastic cause. Failing that, just pop your running shoes on and enjoy the many paths and tracks the park has to offer or take a brisk walk and enjoy the many landmarks dotted about.
Have fun at the play area
The kids’ play area at Sefton Park is a perfect place to head with little ones. Think swings, slides, climbing frames, and lots more forever-favourite children’s apparatus. Let them burn a little energy before lunch, then head to the park café for a peaceful bite to eat.

Sefton Park opening times

Sefton is a public park, and it’s open all day, every day. However, we recommend sticking to daylight hours to get the most out of your visit. The sweet Sefton Park café, Oasis in the Park, is open from 09:00 to 20:00. Why not head in early for a traditional English breakfast to start the day right.
