All year long
A historical reserve of approximately 25 hectares, located off the coast in the Bay of Wellington in New Zealand, Matiu Island is a haven of peace which opened to the public in 1995. With its exceptional fauna and flora, all year round Matiu Island welcomes visitors seeking some peace and quiet, or a change of scenery.
Maori have occupied the island for generations and Matiu Island formerly served as a military camp. When you discover Matiu Island, don't forget to visit the lighthouse. You may well also see blue razorbills, shags, herring gulls or one of the 6 species of native reptiles during your visit.
