All year long
Designed by famed architect Francis Greenway in the early 19th century, the Hyde Park Barracks were in fact built by inmates… Construction lasted a year and was completed in 1819. These very inmates would later inhabit the barracks until 1948.
Today the site has become a museum dedicated to the history of the Australian prison system and the everyday lives of inmates.
