A joyfully decorative approach.

True pioneers of modern decorative arts, Bonnard, Vuillard, Maurice Denis, Sérusier and Ranson defended an artistic approach directly related to life, allowing to introduce beauty into everyday life. From the time the group was founded, at the end of the 1880s, the decorative aspect became a fundamental principle of creativity. They advocated an original expressiveness, joyous and rhythmic, in contrast to the pastiche aesthetic that was fashionable at the time.
This exhibition is the first in France to be devoted to the decorative and ornamental art of the Nabis. Yet it was an essential area for these artists who wished to break down the barriers between fine and applied arts.
