Ludwig von Sckell, the great landscape architect to the court, designed the Englischer Garten ("English Garden") in Munich in the late 18th century. With a surface area of 3.7 km² (from the city centre to the Northern boundary of Munich), the Englischer Garten is one of the world's largest urban public parks, and is larger even than New York's Central Park!
The Isaring is the main route through the park dividing the Northern part, the Hirschau, from the Southern section.
The Seehaus (Lake House), in the heart of the park, is a trendy beer garden where in summer visitors and locals gather to picnic by the lake as soon of the first ray of sunshine makes an appearance.
