Costume and Riflemen's Parade at the Beer Festival
Sunday, September 17 2017
This world famous procession that stretches 7km along the streets of Munich's city centre takes place on the first Sunday of the Oktoberfest. The costume parade and the Oktoberfest riflemen's parade is an opportunity to see a diverse range of costumes which are all rooted in the traditions of Bavaria, Franconia, Swabia and other German regions. The groups march successively in regional costume, and the military troops in historic uniforms. They are accompanied by the riflemen's parade and a series of decorated carts heralding the owners of breweries in Munich.
With harvest wreaths, dancers adorned with flowers, stars and crowns and trumpeters on horseback, the procession continues past beribboned trees to its grand culmination.
