A former religious building, now a cultural centre.

The building known as La Vieille Charité is one of Marseille's architectural masterpieces, dating from the 17th century. Designed by Pierre Puget, this expansive complex is made up of a courtyard closed off by four wings, each with three floors, and a chapel in the middle. Originally a refuge for the homeless and destitute, it soon became a hospice for orphans and the elderly. Today this building is home to a number of museums and cultural establishments, including the Mediterranean Museum of Archeology.
