The birth of the Republic of France.

La Marseillaise Memorial uses an impressive range of cultural and historical resources to chart the history of the French national anthem. The song, which was originally known as "Chant de l'Armée du Rhin", was renamed La Marseillaise after it was used as a rallying call to the French Revolution by volunteers from Marseille. The memorial is housed in the historical site in the centre of the city from where Marseille’s revolutionaries started their journey to Paris in June 1792. It has informative displays, films, fun activities for children and a large gift shop.
