With its collection of 30,000 manuscripts, 3,000 antique books, six million monographs and numerous engravings, drawings, sketches and photographs, the Spanish National Library (Biblioteca Nacional) can boast some of the richest archives in the world. On top of this, the library has over a half a million original music scores, sound and video files, and an exceptionally good cartography department.
Since 2007, the library has its own museum. Having acquired the collections of what used to be the Museum of Books, this new museum informs visitors about the origins, collections and general structure of the Spanish National Library.
