All year long
Madrid's largest green space, the Buen Retiro Park, is home to a number of spectacular works of art, such as the "Angel Caido" or "Fallen Angel" statue above the fountain bearing the same name, a work by Ricardo Bellver. Born in 1845 in Madrid, Bellver received first prize from the Spanish Academy of Fine Arts in 1878 for his plaster sculpture of the Fallen Angel.
The work was made into a bronze statue in time to be exhibited at the World Fair in Paris that same year. After returning to its home country, the statue was placed in the Retiro Park, with a granite and bronze pedestal designed by Francisco Jareño.
