Behind every great painter, there is a great master. For Monet, the teacher was Eugène-Louis Boudin, a painter known for his seascapes, which heralded what his students would later formalise under the term impressionism.
This affecting new exhibition at the Thyssen Museum highlights the human and artistic relationship which developed between the two men, showing how the student's admiration for the master was gradually reversed to become mutual respect and influence. An intimate look at the early days of this intimate style of painting.
